Heyo,

I’m planning on bringing a bike with me up to campus this Fall. I will be a freshman living at Foothill. My problem is that I have been looking at maps of the bike racks around campus ([Bicycle Maps | UC Berkeley - Parking & Transportation](http://pt.berkeley.edu/around/bike/maps)) and there seems to be a severe lack around Foothill.

I am hoping that someone who lived at Foothill or know someone who did could help me determine whether or not bringing a bike would be worth while.

Thanks

Well, using a bike to and from Foothill isn’t the best idea. It’s a very steep hill for bike riding. I knew people that lived in Foothill who would just store their bike in their suite with the permission of their suitemates.

Foothill/Bowles are not good dorms to bring a bike since they are located on a such a huge a** hill.

I had a bike at Foothill freshman year. There’s lots of bike racks within Foothill, and even if you don’t see any, you can get creative on where you lock your bike.

The real issue is biking up to Foothill. It is quite a pain, and you will need to learn how to use your lowest gears. If you have a mountain bike, you’d will want a road bike (or at least a hybrid) in almost no time. Even then, it’ll take some getting used-to and a lot of leg muscle. However, you’ll never be late to classes; with a bike at Foothill, everywhere is just 3min away.

Thanks excelblue. I am looking into buying a hybrid right now, as a matter of fact. It’s good to hear from someone with the experience.

WOOT I LOVE biking and was wondering this too (I’m also going to be in foothill). Thanks for asking this question crystalknight!

god. i think you would really regret having a bike going up that freakin hill-on the plus side, it can be a lot of fun coming back down it :)
