Biking to Duke Cancer Center?

<p>Hello everyone! This maybe a bit off topic (as in not quite academic/course related)</p>

<p>So, i’ll be traveling this route for two weeks…do you think it’s a safe route to bike or should I rather travel by DATA? I’m doing a full paid internship at Cancer Center. </p>

<p>I was wondering, I know that there r Duke bus loops from east to west campus, but do the buses also take you upto Erwin Road too? as in, if I start from East campus, can I get to erwin road easily by duke bus? </p>

<p>Two things: what time of day would you be biking? (daytime is obviously safer)</p>

<p>The other thing: you are planning on biking on I 85? I’d rework that bike route if I were you.</p>

<p>Oh and if you are on East just take the bus to West. It is really easy to walk to the hospital from West. (just go through the clinics)</p>

<p>oops…i forgot to did the ‘avoid highway’ thing on mapquest…nah, I’m definitely not biking on I85! haha. </p>

<p>(for some reason the whole link doesn’t work w/ avoid highways…but you get the point…I’ll be going through W Club Blvd and then turn at Broad St…and then towards Erwin Rd…) .</p>

<p>Yes, I’ll be riding during 8.30ish am and then again around 6.30 to 7.30 pm. </p>

<p>How long would it take to go from West campus bus stop to the research lab? Like 5 to 10 minutes? I heard that the Duke buses run every 15 minutes from east/west/central during the summer time on weekdays. am I right? </p>

<p>so do you think riding bike is a better choice than DATA?</p>

<p>I’d do 1 of two options: </p>

<p>1). Take a C2 from east and get off at the Trent stop (near the corner of Erwin and Flowers Dr.) then walk down Erwin. </p>

<p>2). Take a C1 or C3 to West (Science drive if C3). Walk to engineering quad, then go down research drive toward Erwin and the Cancer Center</p>

<p>Edit: it takes about 5 minutes from Chapel bus stop to the engineering quad, then another 5-10 minutes to go down research drive to Erwin, so if you count the 15 minute C1 ride from East, about 30min total.</p>

<p>C1s and C3 don’t run during the summer. Your only option is the C2. You also have to consider that it is usually about 90 degrees every day in the summer. You would be really sweaty after biking 5 miles in the heat and humidity.</p>

<p>wait,what are these buses like? I rode buses from West to East campus ones…and they just said west/east or central/west. </p>

<p>So, it seems like pretty flexible schedule even in summer…but can you tell me how far away is the DATA bus stop from East Campus? It rather seems like, I should just take DATA transit all the way from State Rd to Erwin Rd…yeah, I’m feeling too that riding isn’t quite the best idea…I might just ride upto Duke East Campus though…idk…yet.</p>
