Binge watched tv shows (Part 1)

We started watching Loudermilk last night and both of us really like it.

Started Doc Martin last night. Filming locale reminded us of St Ives, also in Cornwall. Love the vibe—it’s like a British Sheldon Cooper, smart but absolutely NO social skills!

We like it, but boy, he can be mean. When he dropped the girl off in the middle of nowhere, it was almost too much for my husband to take. We get why he did it, but it seemed a little extreme, especially when she got picked up by the sketchy guy. And sometimes, his snarkiness is a little much.

It reminded me of the Dutch tradition of ā€˜dropping’ for preadolescents/early teens right of passage. He did mention that there were no bears out.

I feel like the snarkiness is showing that he is not perfect, just human.

Started After the Flood on ITV/ITVx. I was a bit wary because I don’t like 'rogue cop knows better than anyone else and even the law" trope but ā€œrogueā€ is not quite what I am seeing so far - a lot is reacting to being patronized or disregarded because she’s pregnant and the one really problematic decision immediately comes back to bite her. I thought the river that had burst its bank was really realistic and the flooded town looked so real I had to check how they did it (built a set in a tank and flooded it with muddy water). The Guardian hated the rubber baby in peril moment but ey production’s not going to waste money on an animatronics baby for a 2mn sequence and the baby was always going to be saved so I didn’t mind, I get what they’re going for (panic, reacting, being/not being able to do what you need to, being powerless, ptsd…)The flood’s aftermath and impact, the character study it leads to, are all decently good so far. JO
o and her mother are both very good. I wanted to shake the husband and his sister though. I imagine it’ll be on Britbox soon.
Mr Bates vs. The Post Office will make your blood boil. It feels like one of those huge scandals from the past, except it’s 21st century Britain that sent people to jail, made them lose their homes, their jobs, their reputation, all because of a program error that the company that designed it and the leaders that implemented it refused to acknowledge. And it lasted for years.

Individual cases have been highlighted in the Oxford Mail

Well, that’s a shame. I really liked the show.

I loved the first season. The second season I have only watched like 2 episodes and I can’t get into it.

I was so annoyed with how the first season played fast and loose with Julia Child’s actual life, that I had no interest in the second season.

Ah I can understand that. I really didn’t know much about her real life so for me it was just the entertainment factor.

Ep1&2 in the 2nd season were boring. Things picked up in Ep3.
HBO used to mean something. For the past 2 years or so, it’s been like… a twisted shadow of that.

we are watching Fargo. It’s my first time to the series - sp starting with season 5. I dont find the dark humor in it like i remember from the movie; but we are very much enjoying it. Its sort of creepy. Think i should watch the other seasons?? i’ve heard one was not good (may #4 in kc?)

The first two were good and more similar in feel to the movie. Season two with Jesse plemons was my favorite. We liked season four with Chris rock. Season three didnt work for us, didn’t finish.

This season is definitely more heavy handed and less ā€˜fun’, but she’s good!

Well then maybe I will try a few more episodes.

Darn! I just started Julia today and so far it’s sweet and fun!

Doc Martin is one of my favorite shows.

Not a binge-watch per se, but on Britbox watched a 45 minute documentary about something I never realize happened—the attempted abduction of Princess Anne in 1974.

It took place on The Mall, on her way back from a function with then-husband Mark Philips. The would-be abductor shot 4 people, one of them 3 times!! Those present were able to drag things on long enough for help to come. The lack of security was jaw-dropping. It delivered a shocking wake-up call to security people.

Having walked The Mall from the Arch to Buckingham Palace just 3 months ago, it was chilling.

Kidnapper to Anne ā€œPlease, come out. You’ve got to come.ā€

Anne’s response: ā€œNot bloody likely,ā€

Now her autobiography I would read. Not that she’ll ever write one.

Am I the only one who doesn’t like Reacher?

It seems a little teen boy shoot 'em up and ridiculously unrealistic. And the actor just doesn’t seem very good. (No offense to those who like it!)

Have you read the books? For me, the actor is exactly how I imagined Reacher…low on emotion and number of words spoken, in addition to being a physically big, intimidate and beat 'em up kind of guy.
