For those that have been accepted as part of the “in-state” pool, can you add from which region (WNY, CNY, Southern Tier, Hudson Valley, NYC, Long Island) you are located? Thanks
Probably what program they applying as well, engineering/business/science
My son got in yesterday in CS major. In state albany NY.
High stats kid - 1550 SAT, very high GPA etc
Yes - better to go SOM and then change your mind. It is very hard to transfer into internally. A lot of the classes will also apply to any major. Micro/macroeconomics fit into quite a few, and statistics fulfills the Harpur math requirement (if your major does not require higher level math). Good luck with your decision!!
I reviewed BU’s Fall 2023 Freshman admissions data (link below):
- Applications received - 49,513
- Number accepted - 18,683
- Number enrolled - 3087 (17% yield)
- Number accepted, but did not enroll - 15,596
I was curious, why did these (15,596) students decline to enroll? Thoughts?
- Higher ranked schools?
- Schools that offer more merit based financial aid?
- Geographic considerations?
Bing is the best safety school for high stats kids both in state and in the tristate area in general. It is an early excellent admit and easy to apply. Many students who get in will choose other schools
has anyone heard back today (mon 11/25) / do you think people will hear back thanksgiving week or not?
All quiet, tomorrow is the last day before the holiday. Unlikely any decisions will be released this week.

Because lots of students applied to 15-20 schools, but they can only attend one.
Those declined Bing are because they either got into a higher ranked school or the one that give them the most grants/scholarships. I personally know 6 kids got into Bing last year, but only 1 enrolled. The others went to Cornell, NYU, Georgetown, Stony, and Macaulay Honors. Don’t get me wrong, Bing is really good school, but lots of top students applied.
Case Western Reserve is another really good school, but each year only ~15% of the accepted students enrolled, and ~85% of them chose other schools. Why? I suspected many of students applied to a bunch of top 30 schools, and if they got into one, they’ll forgo Case Western.
Excellent summary, than you. This makes sense. For some students BU is a “safety”, while for others it’s a “reach” school.
Has anybody else heard back yet? I know the admissions decisions don’t have to be made until mid-Jan, but I’m getting antsy knowing that other people have gotten theirs already haha
D25 is test optional and has not heard back. It seems like those from her high school who heard had high test scores
Ahh I submitted my 1490 SAT so I guess that’s just not high enough </3 Thank you!!!
Sounds high enough to me! I think it’s also a bit random. Hopefully we all hear soon
my dd has high SAT and is in-state and hasn’t heard anything yet, fwiw.
It seems that for the most part, those that heard had high test scores. But not everyone with high test scores has heard, if that makes sense
It may also be by school + region? We are in NYC, and S25 shared that no one in his school has heard, including the current valedictorian with a near-perfect SAT score. They also shared that some kids in Stuyvesant have heard, but no one in Bronx Science.
Actually this would make sense !! I’m in Westchester and I don’t think anybody from my school has heard yet
do results typically come out on certain days? is there a chance to here back tonight? (monday)
I also heard some stuy students got accepted. Do you know if those accepted students applied earlier than others? Or it is based on their academic performance?
