Binghamton to Cornell Transfer?

I heard Cornell usually has a lot of people transferring from Bing…

My stats are 2220 SAT and I have a 92 average in highschool (Stuyvesant)
I am trying to transfer from Bing Engineering to Cornell CALS …not sure if i want to do engineering anymore or life science

So has it been done before? What do i need to do?

IMO it is a bad idea to go to a college assuming you will transfer out in a year. Walking into a college with one foot mentally out the door will stand in the way of your finding good friends, becoming engaged on campus, developing relationships with professors etc. And then if the transfer doesn’t work you will be in a terrible spot. If you go to Binghamton, go with the intention of staying for 4 years. If you want to throw in a transfer application then go ahead, but be sure that isn’t your focus.

I’m not saying a transfer can’t happen, but the only person I know who made that transfer had a guarantee transfer option from Cornell in place before she started at Binghamton so that is a different story.

Do you know anyone else who tried to transfer but couldn’t?

I applied to Cornell engineering first which didn’t have a guaranteed transfer option…i wish i did CALS

CALS has articulation agreements with these NYS publics and CC’s: https://admissions.cals.cornell.edu/apply/transfer/transfer-agreements

You could go to one of these for a year and then fire off transfer apps to Cornell, Bing, and other places. Worst that can happen (most likely) is that you still end up at Bing.

most likely i will remain in bing right?

IMO you have to assume you will remain at Binghamton – if you get into Cornell as a transfer it should be considered as a happy bonus.

@TMNTsqu: Depends a lot on your college GPA.

I’d aim for above a 3.5 and as close to 4.0 as possible.

Human Ecology wants at least a 3.3 (I’d still say above a 3.5 and as close to 4.0 as possible): http://www.human.cornell.edu/admissions/undergraduate/transfer/admissions-factors.cfm

ILR says most have at least a 3.4:

I have two friends that currently are freshmen at Bing, and are actually transferring to Cornell in the Fall Term. It is possible, just annoying because you do have one foot out the door when you are at Bing nd wanting to go to Cornell. Overall, sure it could happen.

[oops I thought you said CAS, not CALS. So… never mind! }

@monydad how is it for cas? just curious

Much harder.
