Which school would better prepare you for medical school if I am a biology major? Is the extra cost of University of Pittsburgh worth it at $10,000 more a year? University of Pitt is roughly double the distance from home and would be out-of-state for me. How important is undergraduate for medical school acceptance? Advantages/Disadvantages for the schools?
Both great schools, i dont thonk you can go wrong either way. Binghamton has a very high medical school acceptance rate. I would use the extra 40k for med school.
@undergradstudent213 Both schools will prepare you equally for med school in terms of major and course curriculum. The advantage of Pitt is that it has the Pittsburgh University Medical Center and a med school right on campus, so you will have more opportunities for medical-related extracurricular activities, work experience, research and internships at the medical center. And if you do really well you may have a better chance of getting into Pitt medical school. This is not to say that you won’t find research opportunities at Binghamton. You will. But Pitt’s strength is in the sciences (they also have a pharmaceutical and school of health school and rehabilitation sciences) with more opportunities in my opinion. However, I don’t know if it’s worth spending $10,000 more per year. It depends on your family’s financial situation. One other stark contrast is that Pitt Campus is in the city with a four lane highway running through the campus. There is not that much greenery. Versus the suburban more country-like Binghamton campus.
I would not pay extra for Pitt over Binghamton. Both can get you where you want to go.
What’s your budget? How Would you pay for the difference?
Pitt over Binghamton because of Pitt’s medical center.
Trackmbe3 good points
Just want to correct a misstatement above. Pitt does not have a four lane highway running through campus. It does have busy city streets running through campus - think city buses, lots of traffic, and using crosswalks is a must - but not a highway.
