Trying to decide if we should buy new binoculars for our upcoming Africa trip.
We presently have 2 older sets that are small. We use them occasionally to check the surf or when we go sailing. They were probably around 70-90 bucks new.
Will we regret it if we don’t buy some nicer binoculars for this trip?
Any experts out there?

I have Nikon binoculars that are excellent! It was a gift from my parents, and they really did their research, and I still have them 5 years later. I will look up the exact model for you when I get home from work. I would highly recommend them

I asked DS if he wanted to take binoculars on his hiking trips. He said, typically, “why?”

He recommends to me for my biking-birding rides to take a camera with optical and electronic zooms.

I’m no expert but yes, you will regret it if you don’t have some good binoculars in Africa! I like Swarovski ones the best. You’ll get close to what you want to see but with binoculars you can see it so much better. Our group passed around several different ones but to my eyes the Swarovskis were the brightest and clearest.

Canon image stabilizing binoculars. Horrendously expensive but one of the best things I bought for our Tanzania trip. I could see things other people couldn’t. People borrowed them all the time.
