<p>Although I have not heard back from all of the schools yet, so far I have gotten good scholarship deals at Emory and UPitt. For Emory I am in the scholars program and if I maintain a 3.4 I get to keep the scholarship and also have priority class selection, housing selection, and qualify for many extra scholarships to study abroad. At UPitt I am in the honors program and receive full tuition and due to my AP credits would also have sophomore standing (and thus probably very good class selection). I am leaning toward going into the molecular biology, genetics, or neuroscience, though I’m undecided. At UPitt I do not need to worry about the GPA for my scholarship and I will have about 70k left over which I can only use for educational purposes (grad school, med school, etc). At Emory I only have 15k over for this purpose. I am waiting to hear about scholarships from JHU, URochester, and Boston U which may be larger. I am leaning toward UPitt because then I have money left over if I want to do med, plus I feel a bit more comfortable at UPitt and less nervous about competing with my peers for curves and such. I am worried I will be stressed all the time at Emory and won’t have a normal social experience, plus I’ll have no money if I want to go pre-med. However, do you think the name would make a very big difference between the two schools if I decide to go to a medical or graduate school? I am going to visit both later this year and am also waiting to hear from the others. I do like Emory’s smaller classes, warmer weather, and slightly (or so it appears) more intellectual student body.</p>
<p>I do not qualify for need-based aid but cannot pay for Emory without the merit-based scholarship. I am also in the running at UPitt for a scholarship which provides extra seminars and room and board. I will hear back about it in April.</p>
