Bio Sat 2

So i’m taking the biology sat this weekend and although im nearly done with Barron’s, i still have a lot to memorize.
i was wondering if anyone with experience with this test would know if it would be overkill to memorize:
All the hormones and where they come from, and basically everything in the "Plants"section. Thanks!

You don’t need to memorize the hormones and where they come from, just have a VERY GENERAL IDEA.
For plants, you’re going to need to know the special types of cells and parts of the plant. Really, you could probably make educated guesses. Where do you think Follicle Stimulating Hormone comes from!? Don’t worry!

Ok… thank you!
@noel59

@Noel597 It comes from the Anterior Pituitary and it’s job is to stimulate the ovary after the endometrium line has been shed (which indicates a lack of estrogen and progesterone). Its release is stimulated by the GNRH which is secreted from the hypothalamus. The FSH works with LH to stimulate ovary follicles to release estrogen which will thicken the endometrium lining. Estrogen keeps building and building and building causing a positive feedback to occur, and this will cause more FSH and LH to be secreted from the AP. The LH will then cause ovulation and release a secondary oocyte. The rupture is replaced by the corpus luteum, which is stimulated by the LH which secretes progesterone. High levels of estrogen and progesterone cause a negative feedback with the LH and FSH causing limited release of these hormones. Progesterone also helps maintain the endometrium wall. So if there is limited amounts of LH, the LH can not stimulate the corpus luteum, the corupus luteum can not make progesterone, and the endometrium wall will be shed. All of this causes low estrogen and progesterone levels, and the menstrual flow. Low levels of estrogen and progesterone thus kick off another cycle stimulating the hypothalamus to release GNRH to the anterior pituitary and thus causing the release of FSH and LH.

Is this enough? Or do I need to know more about which follicle is specifically stimulated by the FSH and LH and the specifics of the hypophyseal portal system of how the hypothalamus is able to specifically stimulate the anterior pituitary to release these hormones?

AHHAHAHA calm down! You know WAY more than you need to know
