Bio-X? Hopkins Marine Station?

Can someone please explain the bio-x program to me? Is it a major? Is it more engineering than biology? How is it different than taking normal biology?

Also, how does one study at the Hopkins Marine Station? I read that it was 90 miles away, so that seems like a pretty far drive. Would studying there be like studying a year abroad, where you completely live off campus for a quarter? Do you do research while there or do you just take marine bio classes? Can you major in something other than marine biology or ecology and still go to the Hopkins Marine Station?

Answers to the above questions would be appreciated!

Bio-X is NOT a major. I have a hard time describing it, but in general, it’s a broad program that fosters learning and research. Read more here http://biox.stanford.edu/index.html and possibly contact someone http://biox.stanford.edu/contact/index.html to learn more.

Students stay at Hopkins for a quarter and study there. You must apply for this program. You don’t have to be a bio major. Go here for more information http://www-marine.stanford.edu/courses.htm

Thanks for the links celestial. I understand these programs much better now.

Hopkins Marine Station is sweet.
(Have only observed it from afar, but amazing from the outside.)

It’s literally right down the street from Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is uber sweet.
