Hi, I’m a senior in hs interested in pre-med and a possible bio-chem major. Thing is, I’m not sure what biochem is? I loved bio in hs and chem was amazing, but does biochem bring something new other than just a mixture of two sciences?

Biochem is the when you look at living systems on a chemistry level (One basic/beginning example you’d encounter would be studying the structures of amino acids and why they allow certain protein formations/functions based on its unique chemistry make up). You should look into it some more if it still sounds interesting- I’m sure your biology or chemistry teachers could help you on this (HS counselors are a different matter, but if you’re one of the rare ones with competent counselors, they could help you too). Also, you may consider asking those very same science teachers to write recommendation letters for you, and by showing some genuine interests in the topic when youre asking about the major, you could help them gain a better idea of your interests in science and result in better recs.
