biology classes for medical school

Hi, I am an undergraduate at Duke majoring in BME and pursuing pre-med. I have taken Bio25L and Biochem227. However, I have not taken bio118. Since bio118 is no longer offered, i have to take bio101 (molecular bio) or bio102 (genetics and evolution). Unfortunately, I don’t have room in my schedule to take both. Which one would be best to take in applying for medical school? I know that some medical school specifically recommend a genetics course… Would biochem227 be able to satisfy the molecular biology requirements for medical school?

No, biochem does not satisfy a molecular bio requirement, they aren’t even the same thing (80% of the time). I’d say if you must choose one, take bio101, you get a lot more bang for you buck in molecular biology than genetics.

Of course, if you should also find out what this “recommendation” from med schools means. I personally have never heard of genetics being recommended over molecular biology but if a school that you like really wants you to take genetics then I would take genetics.

But generally, I’d say molecular bio is a better course for premeds to take (being limited in time)
