biology courses/ bio minor

i’m interested in minoring in bio and am curious as to what the difference is between BIOL 1101 and BIOL 1111. One is general biology, the other is principles of biology. the course descriptions are very similar, so i’m confused as to what the difference is.

I can’t say that I know the difference, but minor requirements for biology should elaborate on which one you need to take.

also have no idea what the difference is. But, all bio/bns/biochem majors take principles of bio, not general bio. You’ll have to ask your advisor about which to take for a bio minor.

Principals is easier.
if your a bio minor, take principals. its a joke, its a lot easier than general bio. gen bio covers a lot more stuff and principals is sort of an introduction to it. dont think that you can just “handle” gen bio 1/2, because you can’t if it’s not one of your major classes since it sucks up a lot of your time.
at orientation this summer your advisors can help you too.

Bio minor requirements from the catalog:

REQUIRED BIOLOGY COURSES
Complete five biology courses for a total of at least 23 semester hours. At least three courses must be intermediate or advanced (BIOL 2301 to BIOL 5999). Three of the five courses must contain a lab corequisite.

BREADTH COURSE
To provide breadth of knowledge, complete one additional science course in the BIOL, CHEM, ENVR, or PHYS subject areas or from the following list:
PSYC 3458 Psychobiology 4 SH
PSYC 4510 Psychopharmacology 4 SH

GPA REQUIREMENT
2.000 GPA required in the minor

It doesn’t say anything about principles versus general. However to take the int/advanced biology classes, you’ll probably need the information and skills learned in general bio. Imagine trying to take organic chemistry if all they taught you was the periodic table.
