I’m currently a junior planning on taking the MCAT and applying to medical schools next summer. However, I have not yet taken the first semester general biology lab (worth 1 credit hour). I’ve taken everything else (chem+labs, both semester of gen bio, second semester bio lab, physics, calc, orgo+labs, biochem, cell structure, physiology, etc) that might be a requirement for med school.
If I plan on taking the lab credit next fall, AFTER I apply, does that hinder my application? Will med school still take me seriously?
I should add that the reason I haven’t been able to take it is due to scheduling reasons. The biology department at my university recently rearranged what labs/courses they will offer in the fall/spring, and I’ve always been on the wrong side of the switch.
When you fill out your AMCAS application, there will be a place to list anticipated coursework. You will put the bio lab in that category.
No adcomm will refuse to consider your application simply because of the missing lab class. Pre-reqs only need to be completed before you matriculate, not before you apply.
Now if you were missing major pre-req like Ochem or physics, then you would have issues with getting adcomms to take your application seriously.
