Has anyone heard of this major at uci?
Is it a good choice?
anybody know how hard it is?

My friend is majoring in BMC at UCI and is doing her prerequisite to change to another major. The BMC major is not organized. They asked you to take a lot of Upper Division Biology classes later on but the BMC curriculum does not include the prerequisites for these Biology classes.

Also the Bio 9C course is not offered at all. The BMC student should take Bio 9C during Spring quarter of their freshman year. Since Bio 9C class is not offered, they removed the prerequisite for Bio M123 and said that she could take this class instead. She went to the website of Bio M123 course and the students in this classes are seniors, juniors, and some graduate students.

It’s also very difficult to handle Math and Biology and ICS 21 classes at the same time. ICS 21/22/23 are very difficult. ICS 21 has about 250 students in the Fall, only 125 students are passed to go to ICS 22 in the Winter.

I say just stick with regular computer science. You can always take electives in the biomedical computing classes and forgo the useless bio sci classes you have to take.
