Biotechnology Associates Degree to help for internships?

Here’s an interesting dilemma I’m not sure if anyone has ever encountered. I’m a student at an undergrad school which has a transfer program with Cornell. I will have completed all of my necessary prerequisites to transfer to Cornell as of the end of the spring semester and could therefore be there in Fall 2006.

However, if I stay at my current school for one more year before transferring to Cornell I could complete an Associates in Biotechnology. Is this worth while if my ultimate goal is an M.D/PhD. program? I do have a strong interest in genetics and gene manipulation, which is exactly what this Associates Degree teaches. Would this help that much in getting internships over the summer… or for part-time work in Ithaca while I’m at Cornell? Would it look great on an application to Med School? Or would this just be fluff? I know it can’t hurt, but would it really be worthwhile to take another whole year to do this? I am planning to major in genetics at Cornell.

I’ve been wrestling with this for a while and need to make a decision soon. I truly would appreciate some advice about this.

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

It is essentially worthless if you do an MD or a PHd program.

Anyone else have a thought on this? I would truly appreciate the input!
