Birding Apps

I am heading to Belize in a couple of weeks, and it occurs to me that I can possibly use my new smart phone (iPhone6) instead of taking a bird book with me. Anyone have any recommendations of apps? Also, I am not totally sure how the connectivity will be when we get out into the jungle of Belize or over the border in Guatemala (we are going to Tikal for a day). So does it make sense to get something that is sort of independent of the phone connectivity? (If this question makes sense…). Thoughts would be appreciated, you guys were a huge help with navigation apps a while ago (and I am now a Waze junky, wouldn’t dream of going back to commuting without it!).

The birding apps I have ( audubon, Sibley) are regional.
You could see if they make a central America related app, but you could also buy a guidebook for the Kindle or ibook application.
Its pretty pricey for an ebook, but it would be handy.

Also make sure you have an Otterbox or other protective case.

No suggestions of apps, but I do second the waterproof case recommendation. Lifeproof cases allow you to use the phone while it is inside the case and are not as bulky as Otterbox monstrosities.

the Defender just came out last fall. It’s pretty easy to hang on to considering I have small hands & I have a six plus.
I don’t remember why I got the Otterbox over the Lifeproof, although Otterbox bought them in 2013.
Maybe cause the Lifeproof was$20 more? or I liked the other colors better. :-/ I also read that the fingerprint reader was temperamental.
But it isn’t waterproof.
