Birth defect be good for college application?

I’m a senior who’s soon going to be applying to college and I always wondered whether having a birth defect could actually be beneficial for the application process. I was born with an extreme case of syndactyly where I had no fingers at all on my right hand. I had to undergo major hand surgery at the age of two just so that I can get “fingers” yet they do not appear to be.

I know colleges always look for a diverse student body, many of them advertise it all of the time, so would a birth defect that has severely affected my life actually make me stand out among other prospective students. Is it possible that they can see it for what it really is-an obstacle that I was forced to overcome? Oh, and concerning the diversity thing, I’m hispanic too.

If you write a really powerful essay on it, the defect could help.

Yeah it really depends how well you explain your situation in your college essay form. How did it change your life etc.

Overcoming any kind of hardship is benefitial if you know how to capture it in an essay, if i were you i’d mention it. Best of luck.
I’d really appreciate if you could give me some advice:
