Birthday on the road

I usually send flowers, a cake to my kid’s address on her b-day. I had figured out everything in her town, best flower, best bakery, etc. This year, the birthday is while she in on the road. What did you do for your kid if they are on the road? Do you send things before the trip, after she gets back, or on the day while on the road?

On the road heading someplace…or what?

I think I would send something before the birthday. Non-perishable. So…no flowers or cake.

Yes, she will be in a big city tagging along her BF who is on business.

I think people appreciate all birthday greetings but especially ones that come early or on the day itself. So if it seems that a gift should be delivered after the birthday for practical reasons, try to send a card early.

I guess tracking her down on the road to send her flowers on her bday is a bit creepy?

Find out from BF where they are staying and have Room Service delivered for breakfast. I’d love to wake up to a surprise like that!

Not creepy but chancy (what if the gift doesn’t get to the hotel in time?) and may not be practical. If you send flowers or a cake, will they just be left behind?

If you want to send flowers, I’d send them to arrive the day after she returns so she can enjoy them for a while.

My birthday is a holiday so I have NEVER received a card by mail on my birthday. My uncle once sent a telegram and that was fun. My grandfather always got the card there the day before.

Maybe the boyfriend can get cupcakes for/from you?

Room service! A great idea. I haven’t met BF yet. He is new to me, they’ve been together less than a year.

You can also have room service to send up cake and a bottle of champagne.

Wow Champagne! Excellent idea!

@oldfort They will be in New York, probably in Manhattan. Who makes a good cake and delivers a bottle of champaign?

Baked by Melissa does same day Manhattan delivery of mini cupcakes. They’re ok - fun for someone who doesnt live in NY and would be surprised by them.

@Iglooo It will be so memorable if you have something sent to or from the hotel she is at. It will be unexpected and make her feel so special as she is tagging along with the BF. I would also send a card early to her regular address as well

@Iglooo The concierge at the hotel should be able to arrange a cake and champagne for you. What a nice surprise that will be for your D!

Thanks for informative suggestions! I’ll follow the leads.

My kids only want cakes from from the Milk bar Store. The rainbow cake is D2’s favorite, but since it is only for 2people, you may want to try: https://milkbarstore.com/products/bday-truffle-dozen-box/

I also like Billy’s Bakery too. Their cupcakes are very good.

@oldfort I was at a baby shower recently where they served several yummy desserts from the Milk Bar Store. I hadn’t heard of it before but they have a Toronto location.

My suggestion would be to follow the room service route. Contact the hotel in advance and arrange for them to bring champagne and cake to celebrate (they might even do a few balloons if you ask). What a great way for them to be greeted when they check in!
