Black Friday/Small Business Saturday roundup

Didn’t really shop, but took my daughter last night to the bookstore to get a signed copy of John Green’s Paper Towns. She is in heaven. I guess a bunch of authors signed and distributed books to local book stores (and some Barnes and Nobels) to encourage folks to shop local. Green said he signed 25,000 books over two weeks.

I’m out doing shopping today (Sunday), just regular stuff, not Christmas shopping. Every place I’m going has Black Friday sales still going, in many cases through Monday.

Cleared the good spam out of my inbox. I noticed that a number of emails pretty much said “Cyberweekend Sale.” I guess this is a Black Friday/Cyber Monday hybrid.

Although I thought I had a good deal at target’s website on a stand mixer, their price for it went down $25 today. Target makes you call to get a price adjustment if you bought on the website. I got a lengthy runaround from 2 customer service reps, including a supervisor, that 1)they couldn’t price adjust because it was being shipped by the manufacturer (what does that have to do with the price I pay to Target?), and 2)that the mixer was a deal of the day on Thurs (which it wasn’t), so they couldn’t price match even though their price is now lower (something about the holiday season not being valid for price adjustments - huh!?)

Of course, I was dealing with foreign customer service who just read from a script. All they could offer me was to bring the mixer back to the store after it’s delivered to get the price adjustment. They didn’t seem to understand that would be impossible since this was a gift being shipped totally across the country from where I live.

Needless to say, after wasting all that time on the phone, I won’t be shopping at Target or their website this holiday season.

shellfell, I got something from target on line and they did not box it in a shipping carton. I can not believe it. just put the tracking label on the product carton (which is designed for a store shelf not shipping) I will not buy online from them again. (this was not connected to black Friday)

I will not buy small appliances from Target – at least not from the bricks and mortar stores. More than once I’ve bought products from them, and when I opened the box there were parts missing and the packaging was all askew. It was clear that they were returns and that there was no QC at all before the products were put back on the shelf. The second time it happened I said never again. Life is too short for repeated micro-stressors like this.

Got some shoes at Nordstrom for kiddo with their extra 25% off sale. Paul Greens and Blondos. Kid was in seventh heaven for finding a tall boot that fit her muscular legs.

Got a gym/yoga bag for the big kiddo at Lulu. Bring It Om Bag - clever word play name.

Target is where I get milk, nail polish, Method cleaners, cheap cooking wine, music CDs, and yogurts. Other stuff… not so much.

I stopped at the mall for a quick run-through. Nothing caught my eye. Gap @40% off, bleh. JJill @25% off, nothing Mom would like. Nordstrom had the same things as last time I was in with another 25% off sale prices. Another meh. Maybe it was just the mall

I know #2D is wanting a new phone, and #1D needs work attire. Both will require some input. H will have to give me a list of duplicate tools to have over at the Canal. Nothing that the stores won’t have on sale in the next couple of weeks.

D bought Blondos when she started her job. She loves them. Perhaps I should take a look online. Tomorrow is a 10 pt day, but a 25% savings might offset.

I didn’t buy much at all on super sales this weekend. I loaded up a Nordstrom cart, and watched some things disappear and then found them again, but nothing has excited me enough to actually purchase. I did buy some gifts on Amazon, but not because of a sale, just because they were asked for. I did spend close to $400 at the wine store, but only saved 30 bucks. There was a kohls right next to wine store, and I bought some new bathroom rugs, a gold chain (for me) and some perfume for my much younger cousin. But I got home and realized its for men, not women. The chain is thing than the one I paid twice as much for, so it’s going back too.

I have a pair of Blondos, They are stylish and warm.

I’m excited that the coat I ordered months ago from Saks is finally being processed. I’m leaving for Florida on Tuesday, so wonder how long it’s going to take H to notice a big box on front porch. Even if I leave a note to remind him it’s possible he’ll forget. Maybe I should ask my across the street neighbor to be on the lookout and bring it in.

Adding CyberMonday to this thread…any good deals??

I really need to put the credit card away…
I shopped JCrew Factory twice this morning and Roots which has 25% off and free shipping - a rarity.

Just ordered a pair of Eileen Fisher flats (for me! for me! I feel so selfish!) on Amazon. Nordie was out of my size… and the lady who promised to call me never did. Same price.

I just stopped at my favorite boutique on my way home from tennis to see if there was anything on the sale rack I could take with me to Florida. Scored a pair of white Joe’s jeans for $78. There were some very pretty sheath dresses on the rack but I don’t get that dressed up when I’m down there, so I didn’t even try any on.

We ran across this at a local arts festival last year, and picked up a balsamic and olive oil for bread-dipping. Everyone loved it. So this year I’m getting a sampler pack for D and her BF, as well as for SIL, who I picked in the name-draw. 20% off today, free shipping for $50+.

It is Tuesday… Still no Earth-shattering sales or wow gift finds to rave about.

I had seen that Eddie Bauer had 40% off EVERYTHING and free shipping. Wasn’t planning to look there today, but also received some Eddie Bauer rewards $$$ in the mail so thought I’d use them on something. I did find a couple of items and put them in my cart. They were sale items. Turns out, it ISN’T EVERYTHING!!! Excludes sale and clearance items! Plus you could only use one code - and you had to use that to get the free shipping so I couldn’t use my rewards $$$. I clicked out. Ticked me off!!!
