Black TX students scored at or near top in National Math Exam

“damifIno” LOL. I wonder if there is a flower for malice…? Wouldn’t that be interesting? I read somewhere that yellow roses were for jealousy. I love daffodils and tulips because of the spring. Long way off for those in my garden for sure. I like the idea of ornamental grasses, too, and have been looking into them. I understand they add a lot of dimension in the autumn.

Can I add mums to the “garden”? Love them (hence my screen name of “Fallgirl”).

are mums a fall flower? I’m wanting to add to my garden for the fall. Right now it’s mostly active in the spring and summer.

Mums are definitely a fall flower. Sometimes they weather over from year to year. Otherwise we plant some each fall.

This is just suppression of free speech. Who are you to tell us what we can and can’t discuss?

Reminds me of the Harvard prof who almost “fainted” when Larry Summers suggested that there may be biological reasons for gender differences in academic performance.

Well, you can discuss anything you want, I would think. I am really excited to find out about mumms and am about to head out to the local nursery to see what my flower lady has to say. Who knew? I’m actually pretty excited. ttfn, as Tigger liked to say. ;)

bird rock, you are free to discuss what you like; who are you to tell us what we can and can’t discuss?

poetgrl, I like mums, too, especially butterscotch-colored ones.

Amorphophallus titanum (Corpse Flower), I have seen it a couple times and never once during blooming. I believe it blooms once every 5-10 years.

I’m really partial to hydrangeas. And rhododendrons. I would love to turn my front yard into a rhododendron forest (may take a while.) I got lost in one in Ireland, once; it was beautiful!

Did you know you can dye cut carnations by adding food coloring to the water in the vase?

Could one of the thought police - or anyone else - please explain what the problem is? Why can’t we discuss racial or state-to-state differences in test scores? Or is it something about Texas? Or Massachusetts?

And why is this thread OK?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/790609-do-elite-colleges-discriminate-against-asian-students.html

Or maybe that’s also taboo and we have to be protected from those ideas also?

I have a white iris that doesn’t like the black iris that doesn’t like the yellow iris, and they blow back and forth like threads in the wind relentlessly all day and most of the night.

You had to go there, didn’t you speedo?

sorry couldn’t help myself

Would someone please tell me why my hydrangea didn’t bloom this summer?

You may have pruned it too late last year, after the buds are set. (I say this like I’m an expert, but I just googled it myself earlier this year, and crossing fingers I got it right.)

Kajon - did you cut it back too much or at the wrong time. My mom says that hydrangeas are particular about that. My favorites are black eyed susans - seriously - and gerbera daisies although I always manage to say derbera gaisies.

Crossposted with garland - my mom agrees with your googling.

Oh, Kajon, I wish I knew! Mine did not bloom this year either. Strangely, I was walking down the street a few days ago and noticed an hydrangea just starting to bloom down in the next block. I check mine to see if it too were just planning to bloom several months late-- but there was nary a bud.

Well, check it out yourself at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Texas.
