Poetgrl is dead on - there are many beautifil flowers, but daffodils and tulips announce the arrival of spring and that is hard to beat.

I still enjoy Lilacs…nothing smells nearly as good

So - about tulips. Do you leave them in the ground, or dig them up?

Tulips will be fine in the ground as long as you get real winter weather—If you live in the deep south they won’t bloom unless you dig them up and give them a good chill in the refrigerator.

Back to the mysterious non blooming hydrangea-- I didn’t trim mine at all last year and still no bloom this year…

Did you ask at the local nursery about the hydrangia? Was it a weather anomoly? I find my local flower lady knows anything I need to know.

Once, when I was still doing tea roses, she showed me exactly where to cut and how and when. Fantastic. Though I don’t do roses anymore just fell in love with the bushes which are very hardy and need little love from moi.

I went to the nursery today to talk about mums and I got a chance to see some other things, and I agree Owlice, the butterscotch are wonderful. Decisions decisions.

someone just close this thread already lol

I hope they don’t close this thread, because I am enjoying reading about everyone’s favorite flowers.

As a child I had a lilac bush growing outside my bedroom window. It would fill my room with the most heady aroma! The bush became almost as tall as our house, and my dad cut it down when I was a teenager because it was becoming unmanageable. I still miss it.

Yes, there’s something about the butterscotch mums, isn’t there, poetgrl? I also like the burgundy ones. I don’t like the way mums smell, so I don’t like them usually as cut flowers, but outside? They are fabulous!

Actually I was very lazy this summer and didn’t do a darn thing to my hydrangea. (but the plant itself got larger than ever) It probably didn’t bloom out of protest for being neglected.

Last fall I planted 100 red tulips and the result was stunning. I lost a few buds to the rabbits. I think they just sit and wait until the buds are ready to pop and then they munch away.

I had begonias along the walk and they got crushed by basketballs, hockey pucks and the kids friends “missing the driveway”. I just might switch to an all hosta and fern garden and maybe in my old age I’ll put some of those goofy statues in the garden for color!

I have 180 tulips to plant this weekend. What was I thinking when I bought all of them???

I like hosta - my Boston Terrier ate mine.

the slugs ate mine, cartera!

180 bulbs this weekend? Even my back hurts just thinking about it. C u Monday. :)

Nice to see that adults can still act like children! =)

HA! When’s the last time you saw a child planting 180 tulip bulbs??
