I’m on my second defective Storm. I’m finding lots of company on the internet. Should I trade for an iphone?

My iPhone still works - so far. I don’t use the keyboard as heavily as some though so if you do, that’s the area to check to see if you find it acceptable.

Can you change your server? I thought I might want the Storm, but it was not available, and then we actually looked at the iPhone, and we were sold. I LOVE my iPhone! The only glitches have been when S loaded applications on mine, he used his access information, and it had be reloaded to change it to mine, and now there is a new application I find on an Apple information site, which I cannot figure out how to load…a great translation application…TokTokTranslator! Otherwise, it is the handiest thing EVER!

I am a loyal Blackberry user, but my personal phone is an iphone and I think it is a much better device than the Storm. Blackberry missed with this one. Bold is OK. I still have my Blackberry World Edition as my work device. Iphone is awesome, but typing is a lot harder than on Blackberry.

Are you an electronics person, MOWC?

I have my “New Every 2” upgrade due in February, and I was thinking about asking my parents to splurge for a Storm.

However, after reading some reviews, I’ve decided to go with a “normal” phone like the Samsung Alias or LG EnV 2. The QWERTY keyboard is the most important factor right now for me, as much as I’ve been texting in the last few years (My LG chocolate is awful for texting).

It seems the Storm really isn’t living up to expectations, especially the sure-press screen.

I have the blackberry pearl. I’m probably not a power user but I like the real keyboard, etc. DD has an iphone which she loves but I have a hard time getting the screen to record my finger presses…

Actually, I love my storm. My only qualm is the battery life, it sucks, but there is an extended one I will be purchasing.

Would I rather have an iPhone? Heck yeah! But ATT sucks where I live, so I stay with Verizon.

Son bought the Storm when it first came out. He returned it after one week (he had an older Blackberry). He didn’t get very good reception with with it and calls seemed to drop. Also, one of the keys was all ready loose after a few days of owning it. He returned it, switched to ATT, and bought the iPhone. He loves the iPhone and although he’s only had it since Christmas, he hasn’t had any problems at all with reception, dropped calls, or any of the applications. It also seems to be made more solidly.

If it makes you feel better, the battery life on the iPhone is lousy also.

MOWC - Have you ever tried the external batteries that can plug to the USB of the iPhone to extend the duration?

I haven’t had a battery problem with my iphone- I charge it every night. I probably don’t have the battery issue because I have 2 devices- the Blackberry and the iphone. WildChild can’t make it through the day with his iphone battery, though. He plays music and does some other things that drain it faster.

zoosermom- I am pretty dependent on my electronics. I have become pretty well educated on Blackberry models because I have used one since the very early models. My work BB is on Verizon and the iphone, of course, is on ATT. It’s good for me to have the two networks. Something usually works wherever I happen to be.

Does anyone know if AT & T will be losing the monopoly with the new iphone models and Walmart marketing?

My h is going to get a backberry bold- just hasnt gotten around to it yet. He does a LOT of testing and says the querty keyboard is easier to use. The internet access speed is much better on the Iphone, but the typing is harder. We had a great thread about this very topic a month or so ago- and MOWC had great info there as well. I’ll look for the thread and link it.

Here it is! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/600968-traditional-blackberry-vs-iphone-vs-new-blackberry-storm.html

Thanks for that link jym, I’m more confused than ever. I must admit I have not even gotten to play with the Storm. Brought the first one home, plugged it in for a full charge as instructed and could never turn it on again! Got on the net and learned this was a common problem. Tried all the suggestions and still nothing.

Got the second one, made a few call and emails, plugged it in and the battery won’t charge.

I need to track down oldfort to see if she ever got used to the Storm. I carry an 8 inch laptop, and really only need to email on a phone when I can’t find a hotspot, which is not that often. Maybe the Bold is the way to go, I’ll check it out tomorrow.

ATT does not have a monopoly on selling the iphone itself. You can buy it as Best Buy Wal-mart as well as ATT stores. From what I have read, however, ATT retains its monopoly on providing the monthly phone and data service to iphone owners.

AT&T has exclusive rights to the iPhone through 2010. The agreement with Apple was extended last August.

There have been several firmware revisons to the Storm. Make sure you get the latest and greatest version. It seem to fix a lot of the problems.

Maybe trade it back in for a Curve? I got a Blackberry Curve about 9 months ago and use it for phone internet and email (and navigation too). I don’t like the idea of separate devices. It works great…very easy to text and having access to email is great. It took me a while to get used to the small buttons for dialing though!
The Storm came out recently so I’m stuck with what I have but it looks cool! But maybe they still have some wrinkles to iron out. I don’t know anyone who has one…
I would love to have an Iphone but I’m stuck with Verizon due to network issues. ATT doesn’t cut it in a number of places where I NEED it to use it. And I’m not sure if I would use it to replace my NANO - I love my NANO cause it’s so small and I can use it when I’m running and working out. All in one sounds really appealing though!

One thing to watch out for with Verizon is that the monthly service cost can jump a lot if you switch a kid on the family plan from a regular feature phone (even one with messaging and web access already included) to a Smartphone or Blackberry. It is not just the initial cost of the phone, but could also be an extra $30 - $60 per month that you are talking about. If you are looking to upgrade your phone, make sure you also understand the consequences of the change in your monthly bill.

You’re right Bassdad, all of the extras can really add up. The Storm has a great one I haven’t seen on any other phone, for $30/mo, it will make your laptop wireless anywhere. Anyone know if any other phone has this ability?
