Blackberry vs. Droid, for texting

I recently upgraded to a blackberry on the verizon network so that I could receive my emails quickly and could bbm with my college daughters. After three weeks, I can hardly move my left hand and find it painful to text/bbm. Will using the tiny keyboard get better or does Droid offer the same “real time” texting? Anyone have experience with both? Any other options for real time texting on the Verizon network?

I have a Blackberry for work and a phone with a QWERTY keyboard in a horizontal orientation (like the Droid with slide-out keyboard has) for personal use.

I find the thumb-typing on the Blackberry LESS cumbersome than on the phone, because there is less lateral movement required.

However, fundamentally, thumb-typing is cumbersome.

I assume you want this to BE your phone? Because another option would be to get a little netbook with a normal keyboard you type on in typical typing position. You can use that for emails, and even email-to-text with your daughters through Vtext.

The techs in my home use “swipe” on Droid. As best as I understand it, you use your index finger and move it between the on screen keyboard. I’m sure someone could better explain and comment, but you may want to look into it.
