Blacksmithing essay topic... yay or nay?

I live in a very rural area, and because I’m applying to Ivy Leagues next year, I think this’d be a unique essay topic. What do you think about it?

My dad and I have taken home “projects” to a whole new level. Being an incredibly nerdy kid, one thing we built together was a fully functional coal blacksmithing forge. I’d like to show my “hands-on” approach to life through this, how the things I created (arrowheads, knifes, etc.) gave me a sense of pride and independence.

RUDDY BRILLIANT. That essay is the best kind of essay you could possibly write for the common app. You just have to forge your essay well… get it?

Haha, nice. I won’t write it for a few months of course, but I’m trying to get some general ideas!

Lovely. What parallels can you see in blacksmithing to your life?

I suggest keeping a journal, and as thoughts occur, jot them down and refer to them when you sit down to write.

It reflects my independence and, although I’m not sure I should advertise this (should I?), my dominant nature. If I don’t like something in my life, I change it (for example, I’m currently quite disatisfied with my school’s academics, so I’m self-studying 5 AP courses  ) I change it just as I would work the metal with hammer and fire.
Plus, saying “metal” and “fire” in an essay just makes it so much cooler-sounding :D

And that’s an awesome idea. I always keep a to-do list on me (I forget very easily), so I’ll start writing down thoughts and experiences also.

I wish that I could be a blacksmith. I would make myself a sword. I love the idea of the middle ages, and especially sword fighting. I will read and critique your eventual essay if you make me a sword?

Ok, that was a long shot, but if you are up for it? lol. Sounds pretty damn cool to me. Go for it

Before you write it though, make sure that it is indeed “Blacksmithing” not “Blacksmithery” or if there is indeed that form of blacksmith?
“Well, I was busy blacksmithing the other day and…” Sounds a bit weird to me :)

Man Idiosyncra3y, I wish people still fought with swords too. Battles would take so much more skill again.
I will be sure to look that up before I write it too! I hate these darn southern colloquialisms. Like, I just found out the other day that “varmint” wasn’t a proper term for small animals.

lol… yeah, made me think of Einstien’s old saying: “I know not what weapons World war III will be fought with, but WW IIII will be fought with sticks and stones.”
Hopefully that doesn’t happen though… But yeah, it would be interesting, and one could really master the art. Anyway, I think it could be a really cool essay, especially if you use it to highlight some good qualities of yourself.

you could talk about how you forged a relationship with your dad that was stronger than Iron. $$ in the BANK
