I currently attend Gordon College in MA. This will my second year here and, as I’m now set on being a Poly Sci major, want to leave for better faculty. While I’m still surveying the broad selection, being originally from Chicago I would like to take a shot at (you guessed it) University of Chicago. My scores aren’t so hot, but UChicago typically is more forgiving; so chance me.

This year:
JAF Honors Program (top 14 most creative/intelligent students in the college)
Executive Vice-President of Communications
Teach ESL to inner-city immigrants
Gordon Film Society
Writer for the school paper
GPA - 3.3

Last year:
Representative-at-Large (it’s student government)
Taught ESL to inner-city immigrants
Gordon Film Society
Writer for the school paper
GPA - 3.3

High School:
4 years private symphony
Selected as only American group to the Aberdeen International Youth Festival (musical prodigies for 25 years and younger).
Performed trombone on National Public Radio (NPR)
4 years Band
2.5 years Jazz Band
2 years Philosophy Club
1 year Academic Team
Helped a Russian immigrant family (driving them around, finding jobs for the father, etc…)
Foreign Exchange, 2005, Sevilla, Spain
Missions trip, 2006, Dominican Republic
ACT - 25 (If I retook it it’d probably be around 25-28; 28 is the lowest digit on their mid-50 range).
GPA - 3.26
Not Ranked [I’d be in the middle]
Private

So yeah, chance me up. As a Representative and later on the Executive VP of Comm. I had numerous responsibilities as well as accomplishments. My essays, I’m sure, will be pretty good. My grades in Poly Sci classes are nearly flawless. I am white.

UCHI says. On their website they talk about how they really look for signs of creativity, ingenuity etc… rather than scores. Also, friends of mine who have gotten in, plus an adviser here have said the same. I mean, Wheaton College has a higher SAT average than UCHI. What does that tell you?

Uchicago is full of smart students with CREATIVITY AND SCORES, do you think you are creative enough that they’ll overlook your scores? I don’t mean to discourage you, but i think the minimum for transfer is probably 3.5 and that’s probably listed somewhere on their website

also, you should think about the switch from Gordon College to Uchicago. Uchicago’s grading is very deflated, students there are highly competitive. If you can pull off only 3.3 at Gordon(sry i don’t know how competitive it is, but i assume it’s not even close to as competitive at Uchicago), don’t you think you’ll be on the verge of probation on Uchicago?

However, nothing wrong with applying, if you got the $ and time, i wish you best of luck, nothing wrong with aiming high :)

University of Chicago:
SAT Critical Reading: 680 - 770
SAT Math: 670 - 760
ACT Composite: 29 - 33

Wheaton College (MA):
SAT Critical Reading: 600 - 680
SAT Math: 580 - 670
ACT Composite: 25 - 28

Wheaton College (IL):
SAT Critical Reading: 610 - 760
SAT Math: 610 - 700
ACT Composite: 27 - 31

Ok, explain to me how Wheaton has better “SAT average” than Chicago. As we can clearly see, the top 75th percentile of Wheaton (MA) could barely lick Chicago’s bottom shoes. Wheaton at IL has better numbers, but still falls short of Chicago’s.
