My epic fail: My dad took me to Vegas for my 18th birthday. Bing and Elvis were there. We went to see Steve Allen. Elvis died the following year.
I can still easily spout off the ingredients of the Big Mac (2 all beef patties, special sauce…), but there are so many things I simply can’t remember.
I actually DID see Elvis in LV, when I was 11, and we were seated at a long table up against the stage, the 3rd seats from the stage. My “older” aunt went to see him MANY times. Supposedly my aunt just slightly older than I am got to go up on the stage one time and Elvis finished singing his song, gave her an scarf, and then helped her off. I say supposedly bc you never know with my family, but I think it’s true :), and she did have a scarf.
My other random claim to “x degrees of separation” or whatever. My uncle played guitar with Santana (in junior high, maybe into HS). As I said in another post a few minutes ago, my family isn’t always accurate with their information, but when I googled Santana I could see he went to the same school as my aunts and uncles, so I believe it is true.
I could tell you my funny story about the roller coaster at Santa Cruz, but that would be even further off topic.
Haha! And this is why jingles work so well in advertising.
And you just triggered a blast from the past for me. I worked at Burger King the summer when I turned 16. Yep, scratchy polyester uniform and dorky hat and all.
My favorite and very silly uncle would come in and make me sing “Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce…” before he would stop laughing enough to order. ![]()
I really miss my Uncle…he had such a warm and witty way of making everything fun.
Circling back….come on folks…who wrote that famous McDonalds jingle?
Technically the one he wrote was the “You deserve a break today” jingle.
And I believe he sang it too.
I love that Travolta is in that Band-Aid commercial!
I do like the old music but there are sooooo many songs I do like in “today’s” music. (Some are a few years old but not oldies ) I think these are especially great
Sailor Song by Gigi Perez
Too Sweet by Hozier
The Ordinary by Alex Warren
Riptide by Vance Joy
My Moon, my man by Feist
End of Beginning by Djo.
No rants, no screams. No country
One word - Copacabana! I was 6 when this song came out. My sister and I thought it was the best! Lol! It became such a joke in our family that I even had the DJ play it at my wedding! We all danced and laughed!
We watched The Brady Bunch and Family Affair with our kids. And for some reason, Bewitched has been in my Facebook feed for the last week or so.
Well…if we are going to add TV shows…I’ll put in a pitch for Golden Girls. I think I have seen each episode more than a handful of times. And I could watch them again!
I turned down a date to see Janis Joplin at the Fillmore east! Biiiig regret!!!
I missed seeing both Earth, Wind and Fire and Jimmy Buffett when they came to my college. I didn’t have the money for tickets.
I finally saw both acts within the last several years. Really glad I saw Buffet before he died.
Yeah. I listen to current music all the time. It’s definitely not all rants or screams or country but I don’t mind alt country. Just got a notification that one of my favorite current bands, The Beths, is coming to town so I’m gonna snag tickets if I can.
