Well, I washed my son’s white undershirts with one of my RED shirt, which is just dumb, but that red shirt wasn’t even new. So now white undershirts are kind of “pink”. I soaked them in bleach, it didn’t do a thing, still pink!
What else can I try besides just give up and buy new white undershirts?
Sometimes white vinegar mixed with warm water will work. (1 tbsp in 1 qt water) Soak for an hour. Rinse well and repeatedly. Be aware that vinegar can permanently damage/weaken cotton and linen fabrics
First, I bet if you put the red shirts in bleach or if bleach splashed on the shirts, it would have taken the dye out! Have had it happen several times.
Second, no disrespect intended, but they are undershirts. Just buy new ones.

True, but that would be undiluted bleach…and when that happens, often the bleached area is now bleach damaged and a hole will soon be there. I’ve had that happen to a T shirt or two…and soon after, the threads rip.
What kind of bleach are you using? I’m surprised washing in CHLORINE bleach didn’t take care of it right away, especially if the shirts are 100% cotton.
@morrismm, no worry about disrespect, I was thinking of just buying new shirts, but really wanted to find out why chlorine bleach does not work, so I know for future reference.
@thumper1, once I get to check price of RIT stuff, I probably will end up buying a pack of new undershirt instead, but having the RIT on hand may not be a bad idea in the event I mess up something else in the future!
@GMTplus7, precisely, that’s what I told my son, they are worn under other shirts, as long as the collar does not stick out of the other shirt, no one can see it! I did use chlorine bleach, undershirts are 100% cotton.
Actually, this is a teachable moment, for S to take over washing his OWN clothing so he can prevent these incidents. My S was motivated to start washing his own clothes in grade school because I didn’t scrub at the red dirt spots with soap and they became permanent stains. He scrubbed them out and had unstinted clothing. D was and is lazier and likes using “color catchers” to keep her clothing the colors they’re supposed to be. I learned about color catchers on CC. They’re in the laundry section and online.
Be thankful it was only some cheaply replaced undershirts.
Before he went off to school, S1 had never used a top load washing machine. The first load of laundry he did there, he trashed a dryer by mistaking it for a front loading washer. He poured liquid detergent in there w his stinky clothes and turned it on.
