Blinn TEAM - Registering for classes

How does this work? Does TAMU automatically register for classes for you? Or does the student register online? If you have been through this process, please advise. Thanks!

I don’t know how helpful this will be, but my daughter was initially admitted to Blinn TEAM three years ago. I have no idea whether things are still the same this year.

We first went to a Blinn advising day. Before we went to College Station, I had researched her major in the TAMU course catalog and had cross-checked the course equivalents at Blinn. We first talked to a Blinn advisor who was extremely knowledgeable and who steered her into pretty much the same courses I had identified. So, I kept my mouth shut.

Then we waited a while before talking to one of the TAMU advisors who had set up shop in the same room at Blinn. The TAMU advisor steered her into a basic elective plus a PE course; the latter so if something happened and she had to drop the elective she would still be a TAMU student and thus able to remain part of the TEAM program. At that time, the TAMU advisor actually registered her for her TAMU classes.

Some weeks later, after we returned home, she had to actually register for her Blinn classes using the BORIS system. This was not ideal in that the system locked up during the process and it wasn’t until a day or so later that we found out it had actually worked.

Several weeks later, we attended an A&M New Student Conference. She didn’t need advising, because her Texas A&M schedule was already set, but we attended all of the TAMU orientation sessions, etc. There was at least one meeting dedicated solely to Blinn TEAM students; there was an informative presentation and the rest was a pep talk. A very good pep talk, but a pep talk nonetheless.

Then came the great day that we dropped her off at school, leaving her on her own. Well, not really. Cell phones have pretty much eliminated the entire ‘on your own’ experience.

If you have any questions, I’ll try to answer them.

Thanks, wepprop! This is very helpful.

How would you describe her experience with the blinnteam route?

For her, it worked out perfectly. She wanted to go to TAMU and was going to be very disappointed if she didn’t get in. So she was very happy. We were happy because she was happy and because we saved some money. She got a transfer admission after one year never looked back.

I just got the letter about being accepted for Blinn Team and i have no idea how to find the way to register for the days of advising. does anyone know? i am new to all of this. Any help will be much appreciated!

Is it important for parents to attend Blinn TEAM NSC in August?

I am wondering because we have already attended Blinn orientation and she has all her classes set up for Blinn and TAMU. We will have moved her in the dorm by Aug. 23rd.
It is kind of a problem to attend because I teach and it is the first day and second day of school for my students. But, if it is critical I will get a substitute.

I was on Blinn TEAM last year and I went to my NSC without my parents. To be honest, it felt like a waste of time going to the NSC, but it’s mandatory for incoming students. They just teach you Aggie Yells and what your child’s schedule should look like, etc etc. Anyway, don’t worry about it, just as long as your daughter has a way to attend the NSC, you really do not have to go.

Thanks! That is the reassurance I needed. She will handle it on her own without us.
