Block schedule help?

My school, for my last year of high school, is switching to a block schedule. We’ll have A day followed by a B day Monday through Thursday and all classes on Friday. I’ve never had a block schedule before, so I had some questions for people who have.

  1. How would you suggest studying and homework? Is it smarter to do it the day it’s assigned or wait until the day before to do it?
  2. Since we’ll be able to choose a new elective, I have some options.
-Off period (I’m an AP student in band and having on off period this year really helped me catch up on homework)
-Additional science course (however, I’m already taking APES and AP Physics 1)
-Color guard tech (super fun, but not related to my preferred major, something to do with biology and environmental science)
Any suggestions for the best use of my time?
  3. How had having a block schedule affected your grades? Is it harder or easier to get stuff done?

Help? Por favor?

My daughter had a rotating block schedule for three years of middle school and a fixed block schedule for high school. She always did her A day homework on A day and B day homework on B day (though she rarely had homework at home because she was able to get it done in the time given for it at the end of class). In her block schedule the last period of B day was “seminar” which was time to do work, time to go get extra help from a teacher if you needed it, time for the school to have assemblies, her jazz band met once a week during seminar, so that flexible time was great too.

She had no trouble with the block schedule. Kids do struggle when they wait to do their homework and several days go by before the next class. For example if Friday is a teacher workshop day and Thursday is a B day, you don’t get your next B day until Tuesday. It is easy to forget stuff in that case.

I was on a block schedule for most of middle school. Definitely do your homework the day it’s assigned.

I don’t really know about the classes, sorry.

  1. Definitely do the homework the day it’s assigned. This would decrease the chances of forgetting the assignment.
  2. Do what ever you feel like doing with your classes!
  3. The block schedule didn’t really do anything to me gradewise. As long as I did my work, it was fine.

Good luck!
