Bloomberg: Call Your Mother

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg told Tufts University graduates on Sunday at the school’s commencement to do like him and call their mothers everyday.

Every day? Wow. That would be kind of weird. I can’t imagine talking to my mom everyday, or to my college-age son. Once a week phone calls are about right for me.

I think it’s very nice. I called my mother almost every day when she was alive. It didn’t have to be a long conversation, just a quick hello. She was not in the best of health and didn’t have a lot to look forward to – I think the calls from my siblings and me make her day a little brighter. I’d love to hear from my kids every day – I don’t expect to, especially with college boy. But I wouldn’t think it was weird, just thoughtful.

I talk to my mom everyday (unless me dad answers the phone  ) and I feel very lucky about it.
