Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp

Has anyone ever heard of this camp? Is it a good camp to get into? Will it help people get more experience? I’m looking into summer camps and this sounded alittle interesting

My daughter went to Blue Lake for 2 or 3 years and enjoyed it. She had fun and liked that it was not a highly competitive environment, at least for her instrument. She gained a lot buy playing with others and LOVED her instructor.

My D and her friends attended twice when they were in middle school for musical theatre. One attended for dance. Which they leveled you for once you were there. My D felt it was good for middle school but did not want to go back for high school

My D attended one summer as a Choir Major/MT Minor (they did not have an MT Major at the time - not sure if they do now). While she had the time of her life personally - she did not enjoy their approach to MT. It is all a choir-based approach to MT - no acting/no dance - and she was specifically told not to belt (nevermind that she had been training both classically and her belt at home). Blue Lake is fantastic for Instrumentalists, but I feel that there are many other programs that are MUCH more suited for the development of MT skills. One not far away from Blue Lake… Interlochen!

I’m not knocking Blue Lake - all three of my siblings attended as instrumentalists as kids, and all went on International Tours (we didn’t find out about BLFAC until I was too old) - and it was wonderful - and based on the incredible experiences that they had had (my sister was even a counselor there while in colleege) we sent our D. Because she wanted to focus on MT - it just wasn’t a great fit for that. She only attended the one summer.
