Bluntness on "Additional info" and resume?

So I was advised on here to explain that I wasn’t able to be involved in anything in 9th and 10th grade due to having to take care of the house and my brother from the time I got home until 1 a.m. on the additional info section. Do I just come right out and say that or what?

And also, I want to put a resume as well. Do I make it like a regular job resume with an objective and everything? And is it okay if I re-list what’s already on the EC section of the common app and elaborate there or should I only put other ECs besides the ones already mentioned?

For additional info, I would just say that you weren’t involved in extracurricular activities because you had to take care of your (I’m assuming baby) brother.

You definitely should not put an objective down for a resume, because you’re not applying for a job. Things like an objective aren’t appropriate for applying to college. I don’t really recommend attaching a separate resume anyway–the Common App should be enough to list your most important activities, awards (if any), and work experience. If you do decide to attach a resume, include everything. For the extracurricular activities you might want to just put “See attached.”

Thanks a lot dchow08! Very helpful!

Ok so when explaining my situation, how do I explain that. Do I just start off with, “I wasn’t able to be involved much b/c of family responsibilities blah blah blah” or what, that seems too forward and like I’m making excuses.

Good ideas for this section can be found here:

There is a consultant on the thread that deals with exactly your situation.

Ok, thanks! Sorry I didn’t look at it earlier, I had posted this thread in July and figured it would be best to revive it.

hey, this is awkward but what things are too personal or just detrimental to include? for instance, what about including something about an eating disorder to account for a drop in grades and to help explain why you are passionate about your major? is that just super weird? i know, this is a weird question.
