BMA degrees

Can anybody give me their opinion of BMA degrees? I don’t think I have ever noticed their existence before. I know of BM and BA, but BMA seems to be a new encounter to me. Not saying they are new, maybe they aren’t, but they are new to me. Would love a bit of color of what sort of kids pick BMAs over BMs and how departments view those students.

My performance major undergrad degree is a bachelor of music applied.

So a BM, right? I wonder if BMAs are designed to allow kids another minor (?), a bit more wiggle room for academics. I am speculating here. I saw Michigan offers them.

My kid had zero wiggle room.

Two of the programs my daughter looked at for Voice this past year offered BMAs–University of Illinois for Lyric Theatre and DePauw University for aany music major. I found that the graphic on this page from DePauw’s website explains it well. Degree Info - DePauw University

From what I’ve seen, if a school’s only professional music degree is a BMA, then it’s practically equivalent to a BM, just a different name. I know that Vanderbilt offers both, and the BMA has fewer music requirements and is geared towards double majors.
