My family likes The Resistance, Apples to Apples, Cranium, Settlers of Catan (with the Knights and Cities upgrade), Killer Bunnies, Guillotine, and Ticket to Ride.

I’m getting a lot of good ideas here. Thanks!

You can still get the Illuminati game that was kind of a cult hit in the '80s. Still fun.

Agree with @gearmom that carcassonne is perhaps the best game for mixed ages. Would add Ten Days in Europe to that category.

If you are looking for less of a party game and more of a rainy day in the cabin game, Mille Bournes is dependably fun and easy to learn.

I got Code Pictures this year because we liked Codenames so much.

We play a lot of these games. We all enjoy Code Names, Small World, Dominion, Resistance and Settlers of Catan. My kids like to play some of the more complicated games like Betrayal at House on the Hill but I find those tedious. Some of the ones they play take half an hour or more to just set up! My S received a game called Mexican Train Dominoes as a gift that is a lot of fun. It’s a good game for different ages. He also has a card game called Love Letter that is fun because it is fast and easy to learn.

King of Tokyo and Ticket to Ride.

Chronology (Buffalo Games)—historic trivia game. Good for a crowd!

we were given ticket to ride last year and have enjoyed playing it.

code name pictures is a hit; its a quiet game but is so clever. I’ve given it to many people now!

5 second rule is a fun fast paced casual group game; very PG rated and gets people talking. We got the game Wikipedia a few years ago and that was fun too.

Code Names is NOT quiet! The most fun is discussing things! It’s even in the rules.

If you have a large group (6+) Telestrations is gut-bustingly funny. I’m often sore the morning after from laughing so hard. Get the larger version (party pack) which can accommodate 12 people as honestly it’s not as fun with less than 7 even though they say you can play it that way. 8 - 10 is ideal.

It’s also a great game because it’s easy to understand, rounds are quick, and even elementary age kids can play.

I LOVE Telestrations! I have never laughed so hard, everyone enjoyed it!

Another favorite of our family is Sequence.

D1 should come visit you guys. She loves Ticket To Ride. D2, D1’s fiancé, and I were all fine the first couple times. But now we are all bored with it and she is crabby that we don’t want to play. We’ve taken to rotating who picks the game each night after dinner, which we’ve never had to do before.

Thanks so much everybody. I just purchased two games listed in this thread and now have a list for future purchases. Merry Christmas and Happy Hlidays. Very helpful group.

I want to thank everyone too for the suggestions. I bought Codenames and Telestrations for the holidays. I also picked up a coloring book of farting animals. Let the fun begin!

Bananagrams isn’t on a board per se, but it is great fun, especially among siblings/friends who like friendly competition.

Hard to wrap, though, as it comes in a banana pouch.

^ great stocking stuffer, though!

The other year when I was buying bananagrams, the ones in honor of the London Olympics was discounted compared to the regular set. The only difference was the London set had 5 or 6 extra “wild” tiles in addition to the full set. I bought them and we can opt to include or exclude those wild tiles. As I recall it was a fairly significant price advantage to buying the special set.

Our family loves games that can be played quickly as little time fillers. Qwixx is one of our absolute favorites. Tenzi is great for a large number of people (there are many variations and you can buy packs of ten sets of dice cheaply). I love Set, but no one will play with me other than my DD anymore. (Apparently it’s not fun to lose all the time LOL)

My siblings and I still play Boggle and Nertz when we get together. Throwbacks to our childhood.

Say what? : 3:-O ~:> :o3 :(|) @-) :
