Boarding at Wyoming Seminary?

How is boarding life there. I didn’t have great news on March 10th so I am looking at schools that have a rolling admissions. I saw that on the boarding school review website Sem only has 45% boarding. Does that impact on the boarding school experience at all?

Hi, @funnygirl1200! I am currently a sophomore day student at Sem, so although I am not too informed about boarding life, I think I still might be able to help. If you go on Google Maps, you can see that the campus is located right in the center of Kingston. As you stated, Sem is predominately a day school, however the large percentage of international students (approximately half of the boarders are international) makes it seem like there are more boarders. The following document is posted every day while school is in session, and I gives a good sense of what is happening at the school and what there is to do each weekend. There is also the Weekender, but that is not available online.

I am not sure where you are from, but the school has many trips to New York, Washington, D.C., and other major towns each term. As you can see here (Photo Gallery - Wyoming Seminary - Kingston, PA), Sem has three dorms: one for girls, Swetland Hall, and two for boys, Darte and Carpenter Halls, however, the long building with the blue cupola is home to Swetland, Darte, and the Dining Hall, Fleck Hall. If you are seriously interested in attending Sem and getting the “feel” of being a boarding student, there are three different summer programs that you can attend: the Performing Arts Institute, College Prep Institute, and English as a Second Language Institute. If you will definitely be enrolling at Sem, I suggest taking the College Prep courses, as you will take some of the required concomitant classes to free up your schedule during the regular school year (plus you get to see me, so it’s a win-win). The cost of the program is much less than any other boarding school or residential college summer programs I have come across, at just over $4000 for boarding students. Financial assistance and scholarships are available, so cost really should not be a determining factor. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me or contact the school directly.

P.S. If you decide to visit the school at any time, let me know; I am a tour guide and would be excited to welcome you to Sem.

P.P.S. If you need financial aid, do not fear! My family received a large amount in July!
