Hi I’m an international student from Korea. I studied abroad in the states since 7th grade and applied for some boarding high schools for 9th grade. I attended a us boarding school for the past 7th and 8th grade year but I just came back to Korea by the end of last semester because of my family’s financial circumstances worsened. My dad lost his job over this winter break and my family wasn’t able to support me to study abroad for the next half semester. This wasn’t a part of my plan, of course to withdraw from my school and come back to Korea. However I just got an offer from a school that I applied for high school last weekend. If possible I would really like to attend that school if they can still accept me as their new student, but I’m very unsure if that would be possible since my application status changed. My parents are worried about this situation and we are all confused about what to do in this situation. They would like to support me to go back to the states (as much as they can) if the school understands my situation, but we expect that it would be nearly impossible to explain this situation to admissions team. We’re kinda lost about what to do and I was just reaching out for some advices if possible. Can anyone please share their thoughts about this situation and what I should do? I really tried my best to get in, and it feels devastated to be left out like this after getting an offer.
no experience in that , but my common sense tells me for you to email the financial aid office at that school and explain your circumstances. some schools offer very generous financial aid to international students. yo do not loose anything for trying.
It probably would have been better to do before decisions came out…but you need to give the boarding school admissions officer an update as to your current educational and family financial status.
Thanks for the advice.
I wasn’t expecting myself to get in to these schools so my parents decided to make me come back before the decisions came out. Since this already happened I’ll just see how it goes…
You need to notify the schools. The sooner the better.
Agreed- including (especially?) the ones you have not yet heard from.
