Boarding School Swag 2020

I think my son got a penant & socks from Cate with his acceptance? But that was several years ago, might be different now.

@ReluctantDad I now have to go back and re-read all your posts with a British accent in my mind. :).

Yup - Kiddo got socks and a pennant and fridge magnets (the poetry kind of a mix of words relating to Cate). There were personal notes and a phone call, iirc. But they change it up.

NMH had a cool box o stuff, including a reuseable water bottle.

We still have swag from schools- a beanie, t-shirts, lots of cool stuff.

CateCAParent - I’m currently wearing the CATE socks. As in right now. The child didn’t want to take them to school

(Don’t worry, Mr. Moderator, this will NOT degenerate into a “What are YOU wearing?” thread.)

They are great socks! Kiddo lost one, of course. Good thing he doesn’t care if his socks match. The school dryers eat socks.

Son received 2 t-shirts (2 different schools) and a baseball hat (third school) when he visited. Received a nice card with a picture of he and his host after he did an overnight visit at one school which his mom and I appreciated.

Just got these freakin fantastic chocolates from Emma
they probably send it out to everyone so I won’t take it as a good sign but dang this stuff is so so so good

Enjoy that yummy chocolate @TheHappinessFund ! So glad they are still sending out that swag!

Just so people don’t freak out - I don’t think we got any swag until revisit day.

We did get phone calls on M10 from all the coaches (which frankly I found overwhelming since I was the number they called and there wasn’t much to say but I guess it’s a nice gesture) and I agree that Groton’s acceptance letter is special and other schools should really take note. Both my kids were very impressed/flattered by it. That letter also informs some of the advice I give because it was so specific about the traits they loved in my kids that got them admitted.

Fun thread!

Our daughter received fair trade chocolate from Emma Willard for Valentine’s Day this year. She also received swag bags from Chatham Hall and Madeira when she visited those school. Chatham Hall gave a lot of nice swag including a a reusable tote, a blanket, a cup, and some food treats. Madeira gave her socks, red & white M&Ms, and some other other snacks. The only other school we have visited in person is Episcopal in Virginia, and they did not give us any swag.

Episcopal was the only school that did not give any swag…funny how I noticed but my son didn’t and doesn’t care…just wants to have an opportunity at one of the schools he applied.

The sustainably minded part of me feels some of this swag is kind of wasteful.

I’m on the fence here…I absolutely hate waste, but I also understand why the kids get excited for swag during visits/M10/revisits. So I’m essentially in favor of useful swag!!

A couple of years ago, Deerfield used environmentally sustainable swag - recycled “green” tote bags and recycled paper. Very little on paper - most info online. It was a “green” swag for Green. One school - don’t recall which one - gave out info on paper that were actually seeds you could plant. Very cool. The bracelet we received from Emma a few years ago was also sustainable and recycled material. Very creative.

Hill sent M& M’s…(Blue and white), a huge fold out that says “I’m Going to the Hill School” that they ask you to pose with and take a pic, Hun school gave a ski hat, Peddie gave a yellow flag that said, “Go Peddie Beat Blair!” which our interviewer gave at end of interview, Lawrenceville gave a small penant flag but a huge offer!

I got a goodie bag from Emma Willard but no chocolate :slightly_frowning_face:

No worries @Sleepingatlast - maybe they are not doing it this year for February. I have not heard anyone else get it this year.

I got only a little acceptance swag - a t-shirt and tote bag from Andover, a water bottle and copy of the Course of Instructions out of Exeter, a flag saying my class number, a water bottle, and a bunch of confetti out of Deerfield. Most other school swag was gotten at school fairs and interview offices and the like. Gotta say, my favorite was the Course of Instructions was my favorite - had spent half a year looking at the old cover and the new design was a favourite!

Chatham Hall released decisions on March 1, and they sent our daughter a lovely necklace with a Turtle charm (that’s their mascot). I thought it was a lovely gesture.
