My friend’s son wants to go bs as 10th grade in NE area this fall. Does anyone know if any schools are still accepting international students? and schools also offer ESL program. The boy is in Boston now and hopefully he can visit and apply a few schools now. BTW, he will be a full-paid student. Thanks.

yes, there are many available
[ESL Boarding Schools - Boarding School Review](http://www.boardingschoolreview.com/esl_boarding_schools.php)
Many in this list have rolling deadline, you just need to call and ask. Personally I recommend Cushing Academy and Berkshire.

Also try N. Hampton, kimball Union, Brewster, Buxton and Lawrence. They`re in MA and NH.

Take a look at the SCCA list [SSAT Member Information](Find a school with the School Search - SSAT)

Other schools may still take full pay applicants but not be on this list.

If your friend comes from a country with a large number of students going to US boarding schools, like Korea, it may be more difficult to find openings.

If your friend can afford an educational consultant, it would save time [IECAonline.com | Find a Consultant](http://www.iecaonline.com/cfm_PublicSearch/pg_PublicSearch.cfm?mode=entry) Look for one that specializes in secondary schools, not therapeutic schools and not colleges. Saving time is importanat at this late date.

Thank you all for the very helpful info. The boy came from China. I made a few calls but none of them take any boarding students application especial from China. But we will continue the search. If we can’t find one by next week, I’d recommend the boy to apply a day school and then find a host family. Do you think it’s a good idea?

I appreciate very much for your suggestions. Thanks.

I’m a consultant and can tell you that China spots are filled just about everywhere. You could try some schools outside of the northeast, like Orme, since they may have spots. It’s getting harder and harder every year to find places for Chinese students.

Actually, Trinity Pawling still has spots for Chinese boys. It`s north of NYC.

newyorker22 - As a consultant, you talk to many schools. Just wonder if you have any idea how many Chinese students apply to each school from small to large school on average.

Maddog15, thank you for the info. Since I haven’t heard Trinity Pawling school before,I’d appreciate if you could share any info you might know about this school.

TP is an all boy school. Really nurturing in the ESL dept. I have a Korean friend there and he says it
s nice. They have a few Chinese student and have not filled their quota. They start in MS, grade 7&8. some internationals board for MS even though MS is usually just day students. The HS is mostly boarders. There is a small town to walk to for haircuts and basic needs. It
s near the train station so one can travel to NYC & Boston easily. They offer a lot of AP courses. Recent graduates have gone onto top schools such as Stanford, Boston col. Cornell. I know you can get a tour and interview over the summer. Good luck

Hey
Do you mind using some consulting service?(zhongjie) I don’t know anyone of them, just googled…BE CAREFUL!!!

I’m pretty sure that schools which still have spots for int’l students now offer ESL classes.

@gonnastop. Try boardingschoolreview.com you will find them all.

@maddog

The links are about some “agencies” in China which claimed that they had “special relationship” with those schools. They also said on their websites that it’s still possible to gain admission for this fall.

Thanks.

Does that help bostonmom?

@gonnastop, oh, ha ha, sorry. I thought you meant you googled the schools mentioned and was advising busybostonmoom to be careful about our suggestions.

@ maddog

Yeah, those “agencies” are expensive and they say they guarantee admission.

Hi,
I am an educational consultant who helps Chinese students attend US Boarding Schools. You are right, there are many other options available for students who want to study in the US. Boarding schools are becoming increasingly competitive for students from China and only a few are accepted at each school. Other schools will accept as many Chinese students as apply and the Chinese students are very unhappy as their immersion is not available. I am currently working with 3 independent day schools in Ct. We provide housing or homestay. The admission criteria is much less than the traditional boarding schools. These schools are excellent offering AP classes, ELL and all the same sports and extra curriculars that a traditional boarding school would offer. Pass the word and reply if interested in more information.

Hi,
I work with Chinese students also and I am working with 3 independent day schools in Ct who are looking for students. They are wonderful schools offering the same AP Classes, Sports and Extra Curriculars as many of the boarding schools. Two have much lowered standards of admission and offer ELL. Let me know if any of your students might be interested.

I know Chris and he is a good consultant
