'Boaty McBoatface' dominates poll to name polar research ship

I thought there were some wonderful other choices. I liked “Boat”

You think they would learn not to use the internet to name things.

Sigh, S1 had something to do with this one: http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/08/14/mountain-dews-dub-the-dew-online-poll-goes-horribly-wrong/

The new B-21 has also followed suit

“Budget Buster” suggestion was pretty awesome =))

No big surprise but unfortunately the ship was named after David Attenborough instead of being named Boaty McBoatface.

Dang. Although Attenborough is a great choice.

Oh no. I was rooting for Boaty McBoatface.

Now I’m going to think that David Attenborough has a Boatface!

Dang, I knew Boaty McBoatface wouldn’t make the cut.

Oh well, H says he read it was used as the game of s remote controlled submarine.

@HImom Shouldn’t that be Subby McSubface?

Hey, cute and close enough! H is relieved for the crew and commanders who don’t have to say they served on B McBF.

This was covered by one of our local stations. One newscaster said, “Hey. You asked the public to vote. This is what you get.” The other newscaster commented, “It’s kind of like Donald Trump.”

The problem wasn’t the voting–it was in allowing the public to suggest names and add them to the list for folks to vote among.

I think we would all be a little worried right now if they actually did select Boaty McBoatface

Lol

The outcome of a boat naming contest doesn’t have seismic implications. But the inappropriate winner of this poll and other news headline-making polls is the reason that direct democracy by the unwashed masses is a dangerous thing…

Don’t Trump backed Brexit, supporting Britain’s exit from the EU. The next day the polls showed a marked increase in the number of people wanting to REMAIN. Seems no one wants to be associated with the Donald.
