<p>As an SEC girl, I’ve been trying to keep up with the Bobby Petrino scandal. As the coach of an opposing team, I’ve never been a fan of his, anyway, but he truly is a pig. Not only was he having an “inappropriate relationship” (his words) with his 25-year-old mistress for the past seven months, but he was apparently carrying on with a 26-year-old bikini model for at least two of those same months. This is a 51-year-old married man with four children. I feel so sad for his family. He has now lost his job, will likely lose his wife (if she’s smart), and any respect he might have had. I remember when he was the coach at Louisville, promising he had no plans to leave and then secretly interviewed for the coaching position at Auburn. He didn’t get that job but he did end up leaving Louisville only a few months in to a 10-year contract in order to coach the Atlanta Falcons. True to form, he left them in the middle of the season to go to Arkansas. As a matter of fact, he left Atlanta so quickly he didn’t even address his players in person … he left notes for them in their lockers. I know there are at least a couple of other SEC fans out there in CC land. I’m also interested to find out what happened to his mistress’ fiance, Josh Morgan, who was, or may still be, the swim and dive coach at Arkansas. They were to be married in June. I read yesterday that he is now no longer at Arkansas. Quit? Fired? Ran away due to embarrassment? So many people have been affected and hurt by Petrino’s actions.</p>

Hope the door hits him in the butt as he leaves.</p>
<p>I wonder if Les Miles or Nick Saban have such skeletons in their closets. I could bet you dollars to donuts if they were caught in such a situation, they’d get a slap on the wrist. Saints fans are in uproar over the sanctions against the team because of the Bounty scandal. Many of them have no problem with players getting monetary awards for putting another player in the hospital.</p>
<p>I have followed it with great interest. What a disaster and what a stupid pig.

<p>There are so many sleazy parts to this story, it’s hard to know where to begin. </p>
<p>I vote the sleaziest is when 159 applicants were reviewed by a hiring committee, of which Petrino was a member. One of the 159 applicants happens to be his mistress, but of course know one else knows this. And lo and behold, she gets chosen for the job. 158 innocent applicants put through all that for nothing. Pig, indeed.</p>
<p>Well, Arkansas is just north of Louisiana. This is par for the course in our neck of the woods. And we just keep electing them over and over. And we all know a famous man from Arkansas who acted similarly in the past. Sorry, politics mod, but I just couldn’t help it. But college football coaches are akin to gods and presidents in the good ole SEC.</p>

<p>I don’t agree. I don’t know what would happen with Les Miles, but Saban would resign immediately and not even wait for a decision. He would know that he would have no cred with his kids and expect them not to lie to him. When his kids get questioned, he always tells the to tell the truth. He wouldn’t have the authority to do so if he had behaved as Petrino did. (Frankly, Nick would have more fear about what Miss Terry would do to him than any ole school. She’s his rock and she’d grind his hoo-haw for any such shenanigans.)</p>
<p>Petrino did so many things wrong, including using a company paid cell phone for all his communications. That was really stupid since those are occasionally checked to see if coaches are inappropriately contacting recruits when they aren’t supposed to.</p>
<p>Having grown up, graduated from an SEC school, and lived in the SEC mania for many years, it is truly a shame to see the emphasis/hold that football continues to posess. Wish the energy and effort that goes into football down here were equal to education!</p>
<p>What a mess–he is not the first down here, and certainly will not be the last SEC coach to live the lie.</p>
<p>Les Miles reminds me too much of Bo Schembechler. I doubt that Bo or Woody cared that much about libido, compared to football and doing things their way. </p>

<p>LOL! The same “honorable” Saban who held a press conference saying that he was staying at LSU just hours before sneaking off to Miami? Then publicly denied that he was quitting Miami and going to Bama but went anyway?</p>
<p>He could teach “Lying 101”.</p>
<p>I hope I don’t have to ever eat these words. but I don’t think you’ll see anything like that from Vanderbilt’s James Franklin or basketball coach Kevin Stallings.</p>
<p>It’s so difficult to understand what a young woman in this situation would be thinking getting involved with a man like this. I would be so very disappointed if one of my Ds did something like this.</p>
<p>There are now rumors that nude photos of Petrino may soon surface. Seems he used his school-issued phone to Favre himself and text the photo(s) to his mistress. The house is on the market now and I can only hope that Becky Petrino has run in the opposite direction of her low-down pig of a husband.</p>
<p>I do agree with m2ck on Nick Saban. I think he has too much character to engage in such behavior, and I think he’d be a fool to incur the wrath of Ms. Terry.</p>
<p>I didn’t mean to impune Mr. Saban, or Mr. Miles. I just was using them as an example of well known SEC coaches who may not be disciplined as harshly as Petrino because of their dedicated alumni and the money they bring in to their respective schools.</p>
<p>I think Petrino’s situation was compounded by the fact that he hired her, gave her money and lied about so many things. NO school (or corporation) could keep that employee under those circumstances. An affair without those other factors might not have led to termination- just some punishment and a public apology.</p>

<p>In addition to losing his job, his family, and his reputation, has he also opened himself up for tax evasion? I’m no lawyer, but it’s been reported he gave this woman $20,000, which exceeds the gift allowance. Did he pay gift taxes? Because if he didn’t he may have violated the tax laws.</p>
<p>UAlabama might well indeed fire a coach who missteps ethically. Remember, they canned new hire Mike Price even before he ever coached a game, for just visiting one of those “no shirt, plenty of service” bars. Price allegedly never even ah, er…“handled” the merchandise. He just got sloppy-drunk.</p>
