Getting excited to get to waterfront today so thought I’d start a thread about water.

Which do you prefer, lakes or oceans? Sandy beaches or rocky shores? Do you have a favorite lake or beach that you’d recommend to someone?

I love the sound and smell of the ocean. I love big waves, and the ambience of coastal communities. Then again, I ‘use’ a lake more, especially if there is a dock and something to boat in or float upon.

My favorite “bodies” of water are people, so I prefer seaside communities. In no particular order, Lahaina, Venice Beach, Newport (RI), Battery Park, Virginia Beach, Charleston, and Key West.

all water is good water. Some of my favorites: Tenaya Lake in Yosemite, Honeymoon Beach in Pelelieu (Micronesia), La Jolla Shores in San Diego, Hanauma Bay on Oahu, lots of little lakes in Lassen National Park.

Warm oceans and soft, sandy beaches are my favorites, but I’m happy anytime I can look across miles of water to see the sun exploding in the horizon.

beautiful white sand…gulf shores al,

So true! I grew up on a lake in NJ and was about 30 minutes to the ocean. I live on Lake Ontario as an adult, and am currently in Hilton Head looking out my window at yet more water! Love, love, love it.

Lake Michigan as you stand at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore in June before the crowds get there. They days are sunny and warm, nights are cool around the campfire. Actually any view of Lake Michigan from one of their state parks is ok with me!

The Cape Cod National Seashore.

Ditto, the beautiful deserted sandy beaches and shores of Lake Michigan in northern Michigan although I love any body of water that you can’t see across to the other side! Second fav is probably the beaches around Santa Barbara.

A 16-ounce glass with a few ice cubes floating in it.

Bermuda’s pink sand beaches and the waters off of it.

Biscayne bay…

Ditto X3
Heading to northern Michigan tomorrow. Family home on Burt Lake, but also love the Lake Michigan beaches!

Well the Pacific used to be rated #1 by USNWR but with the cut backs here in California…well let me tell you, the Atlantic is closing in and man, are we worried.

Pensacola Beach, Santa Rosa Island, Florida. Clear water, white sand, dolphins in the distance.

I could never live anywhere far from water.

But as for my favorite body of water, I have to say the Mighty Mississippi. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing it from a few different cities, and it still amazes me how alike people who live along the Mississippi are. They are the friendliest people you ever want to meet, and I have to believe that this beautiful river has something to do with their fellowship.

I’m a lake girl, 100%. I have a lot of favorite lakes but Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks in my favorite. A beautiful lake to sail and explore.

The Bay of Fundy for the view.

Saranac Lake, NY; Cape May, NJ; Avalon, NJ; anywhere on the US Virgin Islands shore, and Laguna Beach, CA are the choice beaches and lakes I’ve been to.

Oooh, I do wish I could visit all these places. Maybe a retirement project one day.

Has anyone been to one of those tropical locations where you stay in a hut over the blue water? Maybe its fiji or the Maldives? I’ve only seen pictures but it’s definitely on my bucket list.
