Boeing 737 Max 8

Thoughts on this? My kid is due to fly on one Saturday to Europe, European airline. Wondering if FAA or airline will decide to ground them. :frowning:

My family is taking a vacation in May, one leg of the trip is on this plane with Southwest. I’m changing my flight.

I called Southwest and am in line for them to call me back. Price is only $100 more for the four of us, I’m going to see if they will waive that. If not, it’s worth my peace of mind.

It infuriates me they aren’t grounding all of them.

I just checked my trip to Spain and it is a Dreamliner.

The risk is still very low but significantly higher than flying on other commercial aircrafts. I’d change the flight and ask the airline to waive the change fee. Apparently, American Airlines flight attendant union has told its members that they don’t have to work on this plane if they’re concerned.

Ok…fill me in…what did I miss bout this plane??

Just forwarded article to DD who is planning a lengthy trip involving a lot of flying.

Thank you.

Just changed it, it actually cost us $18 less…but you don’t get a refund, you get a credit. I love Southwest no change fees. We leave 45 minutes later, and arrive 45 minutes later, right before noon. I’m happy.

The only bummer is that we were changing planes in Las Vegas for a couple hours and I was going to play the slot machines in the airport.

We’re flying on United for the spring break trip, and one of the planes was 737. Called this morning and changed the flight without a fee, even though the airfare went up by now significantly. Very grateful to UAL.

I just changed our return flight on SWA from Midway. Previously booked on a 737-max8. Not anymore!! $26 to change per ticket. Outbound flight decreased by same amount, so going to ask for a credit. Should have changed outbound flight first.

^^^I though UAL does not have any 737 Max 8s in service?

@Mwfan1921 I think United has the 737 Max 9, a bigger version of the Max 8.

United doesn’t have 737 Max 8s but it does have Max 9s in service. The Max 9s probably have the same software and electronics as the Max 8s.

FYI.

“SeaTac-based Alaska Airlines doesn’t have any operating now but has ordered 32 of the jets.”

Phew. Flying on Alaska soon.

I get so irritated at DH sometimes. I told him I changed and he couldn’t believe I did it. He thinks it was pilot error or the maintenance in 3rd world countries. I told him they are new planes and it’s just too coincidental, and something is wrong with them. Talk about sticking your head in the ground, like “it would never happen to us” mentality.

My husband flew on this plane 10 days ago. It was an American flight from Dallas to Detroit. He was surprised that they announced it was the plane’s first commercial flight.

They all need to be grounded. It’s too much of a a coincidence.

@intparent , I’ve been wondering if DS’ flight to France for his HS trip on Saturday will be on one. I’m checking with the teacher; I can’t find our flight numbers. Then again what would I do? This is a school trip and would be very difficult to change, I’m sure :frowning:
