Bombing hits BostonMarathon

I “think” they started removing trash cans after the Atlantic Olympics.

I picked my daughter up from a friends house along the marathon today and the street was littered with water bottles. I was actually surprised at all the trash.

Just back from Boston. It was very quiet coming into the city. The Bruins game was cancelled so there were far fewer people around and I think that a lot of people were in their homes tonight. I drove along Cambridge St to get to Storrow Drive to get back home and you wouldn’t know that anything happened today except for the satellite trucks parked outside Mass General for two blocks.

If I had a visit to BU scheduled for Wednesday, I would go if housing and parking were taken care of. The area that is currently closed off will probably be closed off tomorrow thought the area may shrink but it isn’t clear whether it will be fully reopened (along with Copley Green Line Station, Copley exit off the Mass Pike and maybe one or two of the Storrow Drive exits. I believe that the T is otherwise running and that might be a better way to get around. Boston University is some distance from the area that’s closed off but there may be some severe traffic problems near BU caused by the closure.

Note that there may be random backpack inspections on the T for a little while.

Lergnom, 3togo you live near my daughter. She was at a bar 2 blocks from finish. Her roommate went back in to go to the bathroom and then the explosion occured. She just got home and had no idea how bad it was until she watched the news.

I listened to a press conference by a surgeon at Mass General this evening, and the stupidity of the reporters’ questions was just ridiculous. The poor man had been in surgery all day and then had to answer questions like, “The people in critical condition-are they going to be okay?” and “Of the people you still haven’t been able to identify, do they have family members with them?” I can only hope that the reporters were punchy with exhaustion from covering the story all day.

Piers Morgan interviewed the 78 year old marathon runner tonight. He was knocked down by the concussion, but was able to get up and cross the finish line. He then walked back to his hotel.

Maybe it’s just because I live in the Newtown area, but I’m feeling like its not coincidental that: family members from Sandy Hook were there at finishing line tent; last stretch where bombs ignited was dedicated to the memory of those lost in Sandy Hook; anniversary of VT & Columbine.

Some of the photos I’m seeing this morning are just horrifying.

Please pray for the family of the little 8 year old boy that was killed.
His sister also lost a limb. She is 6.
His mom is critically injured and underwent surgery for injuries to her brain.
It was said they were there to watch their father in the race.

So sad :(

So many possible motives. Apparently it’s a “big week” for those who hate us.
Tax Day
Patriots Day
Israeli independence Day
Anniversary of Waco
Anniversary of Oklahoma bombings

All in the span of 3 days

Oh, good grief. It boggles the mind.

The questions were/are stupid and frankly, I am not sure that the round the clock reporting is helpful. In fact, when I turned on the news this morning, they were saying the same things as they said last night when I went to bed…
If this is someone simply seeking attention, as opposed to other reasons, we are rewarding he/she well.

I’m really sad today and I hope I can make it through with not too many tears. Unfortunatley, I know how the people feel in Boston. Today is also the anniversary of the VT shooting. I can’t watch these events on tv anymore. They are too stressful and bring back a lot of bad memories.

My DD is 16 and thank god she doesn’t remember September 11th because her dad was a firefighter at the Pentagon for the first 24 hours. How sad is it that we have to explain these events to our children. Sometimes I don’t know what to say anymore.

Praying for the people in Boston, Newtown, Columbine, VT, etc…

I agree lastminutemom. The press needs to stop repeating the same news over and over again, much of which includes pure speculation. I do not mean that we should minimize the significance of the event, but that we should cover it more intelligently. I do think that the perpetrators get a sick reward out of our non-stop multi-channel repetitive babbling.

My heart goes out to all those affected, especially the family of the 8 year old boy. As ognopgod stated, the mom and sister were also severely injured. There is a third child that was not physically hurt. One minute they are cheering on their dad and the next the family is horrifically broken.

Kudos to the good Samaritans and first responders.

Hugs to you today 4CookieMonster.

The “media” in general can get annoying, but as long as we have Americans sitting for hours/days in front of their television etc. hanging onto every last word, picture, theory, etc. the media will continue to bring it - and are sort of forced to to “please” their audience.

I thought the doctor interviewed last night on CNN at 10pm did a fabulous, respectful job of answering questions, being honest yet professional. Hats off to the medical staff in the Boston area hospitals.

Governor and mayor updating right now.
No unexploded devices found. Over 150 hurt.

One network reported this morning that the father of the 8 yr old was not in the race but was also a spectator, with his family. I don’t know which is true but it bugs me when information is spread which turns out to be false later on. It could be from the rush to frame a story but it’s important to confirm facts. I saw one thing on facebook this morning, showing RIP to the 8 yr old girl who was running the marathon for the kids from Sandy Hook. None of that is true, but people keep hitting share.

Well, the Boston bombing has upped the security concerns for the dedication of the George W. Bush Library in Dallas on April 25th. It had been announced that Carter, Bush Sr., Clinton and the Obamas would all attend. Of course Bush Jr. would be there.

President Bush Jr. attends Highland Park Methodist Church and the Library, that Church and parts of SMU are along a 3/4 mile strech of Mockingbird Lane. Friends who attend the Church have said that the Church already had plans to suspend all activites at the Church for the 3 days up to and including April 25th.

Stay tuned.

Sad cookiemonster. I agree.

It’s not healthy to watch that stuff for long. The studies showed that it causes PTSD in some people. Just turn it off.

poetgrl is so right. Also, no need to read about the details of the human horror, the human mind tends to alread “know” enough.

O’bama?

Anyway, there is now confirmations that there were two, and only two, bombs. Far cry from the half dozen they reported found/suspected yesterday.
