Bombing hits BostonMarathon

Radical Religions, and extremists of all walks of life, are opportunists and feed on the disaffected. Currently, we see this most with Radical Islamists. But we see it in in all impoverished places and not just in one place.

It is not “bad” to say this. We certainly have no problem at all with our disdain for Radical Fundamentalists Christians who kill doctors and bomb abortion clinics, or deny birth control to women.

Lindz, that’s just it: they may have. Even with 24 hour news, I highly doubt we little people have much info. Heck, we often can’t keep straight what we do know.

I am not confident that poverty is a determining factor and where it is, it is usually the political class in the home countries that is to blame.

Yeah, I don’t agree with that Zoosermom. It doesn’t explain the problem they have in China with the Islamists.

“A police spokesman told CBS News’ Don Dahler that Tsarnaev was in “serious if not critical condition.” Sources told CBS News’ Miller that Tsarnaev suffered gunshot wounds to the neck and leg and had lost a lot of blood before being captured.”

No surprise that the kid is in critical condition and may not survive. He lay there in that boat for hours, losing a large amount of blood because of his gun shot wounds. The percussion bombs that the police tossed in the boat didn’t help his distress (not that they were designed to).

By the way, it I think it’s inaccurate to minimize the depth of resentment in the wider community of Chechnyans against the Russian government. Obviously not every member of an ethnic group or community would support extremism, but MANY DO, as we’ve seen in some nations. No sense in poo-poo-ing it or defending our own sense egalitarianism to excess.

It’s really strange that you answer my post about non-national service ways for Israelis to help the US by talking about national service.

I also think we can’t minimize resentments, which can carry for generations. But unless one studies the cultures, the conflicts, the proponents and the opponents, how do we generalize? We can- and we can’t. Or maybe I mean, we risk painting with a broad brush, catching only superficials. While that’s sometimes all we need, in this age, where we communicate so easily and so broadly, we risk misinforming each other. One heard this and another heard that- and the truth is yet to be uncovered.

The older brother became more religious right around the time his prospects for a successful boxing career took a nosedive. It would not be difficult for an Islamist attending the same Mosque to view him as someone he could radicalize.

I think the uncle summed up succinctly what was true motivation behind the brothers’ actions: “…losers…and not being able to settle themselves, and thereby hating everyone who did.”

Everything else is dressing.

In hindsight, he would have either died in the boat or he would have had to seek medical attention. The police reaction to let people out of their homes may have been the correct one - they may have known that he had been hit because they were looking for blood and he had been without medical attention for about 19 hours.

BC, one possibility is that he contacted authorities. He couldn’t say where he was, they continued the search. ? That’s a long shot, don’t hold me to it.

It is likely that there were hundreds or thousands or millions of people with extremist views (most of whom never do anything but rant) that the FBI may have known about or encountered. Finding the needle in the haystack is hard, even if the haystack is a smaller one than the entire population of the US.

In a couple of more posts Looking and Poet will have rationalized the Rotarians and Pope John XXIII are to blame.

This has nothing to do with a “war on women”. Or what other religions you consider “radical”. When someone sidles up to a cheering 8 year old and drops a backpack containing a nail bomb next to the kid thats not a statement about economics, club level boxing, your GPA, the role of women, or Operation Lentil.

And I am going to say at this point- not so great an job by the FBI. They took forever to get the photos out, causing days of delay when the hat brothers could easily fled if they had a coherent plan.
And if I already knew Tamerlan was on the suspecious list and an Al Queda style bomb went off 3 miles from his home, I would have had people cruise by the place on day 1 and have a little chat. Appearently that didnt happen.

I agree argybargy. How many radical Islamists who were on the FBI radar can there be in Boston?

Geez, I hope it’s a small number.

The marathon was run on Monday. The bombing occurred on Monday.

4 days later the two people responsible were identified, located and caught.

Pretty darn impressive.

First, they had to look through all of the video; if the suspects had a flight plan, they would have been long gone by the time the video was sifted through.

An article on the decision to release the photos:

Arg, that’s ridiculous. Take a second to look at all the misinfo we the public have been hanging our hats on. Consider that the authorities owe us zip, nada, nothing, while they do their work. And that newshounds are…newshounds. Just waiting for anything to say. Tune to my channel, read my newspaper. A kid who had the same lunch period in hs thought he was okay. That’s a “breaking story.”

So, tell us why he did it, arg. At this point, you will come up with nothing that hasn’t already been speculated. And emotions will run you toward a bit of retribution.

You DO NOT know what did happen or did not. For all you know, the instant they saw footage of the brothers, they knew. But, no one told you that.

I also think all those involved did a great job. I am also sure they will review everything they did to see what could have been done better, sooner or not done at all.

Bombing suspects can be any type of radicals (or possibly other types of criminals), not necessarily just Islamist ones.
