Bone Density- Seeking Info from Y'All!!

Exactly, and it should increase over time as you build your muscles. My weights vary a lot; 12 lbs is really hard for a shoulder press, but I can deadlift 75 because that involves most of the large muscles.

How many of you have found yoga to be helpful with balance, weight bearing exercise, etc.??? Interesting article:

I felt like hot yoga was really good for my balance, but I just can’t do it. I don’t have time and I’m not sure the extreme heat is all that great for me. I go back and forth on how I feel about it. I do think standing on one leg and doing balancing exercises is worthwhile.

I just started my second to last Forteo pen, so the end is in sight. I will have another bone density test in May and see how things look and what the next steps need to be.

@MomofWildChild : I use a balance pad and practice standing on it one-legged while watching TV. My balance has always been a bit off–I fall over on my bike at traffic lights even though I use flat pedals and no clips!–and this seems to help, but I think it’s an inner ear problem, as I also have some positional vertigo.

I like yoga for balance - poses like eagle, dancer, tree, rotated crescent, etc.

Been investigating options for my exercise. For some reason England, Australia, and Canada seem to have the best and most useful info. Thought I would share the best ones so far. One from USA and one from Canada.

^^^^ Excellent resources. Thank you.

Good options. Thanks.

Yes, thumbs up on that simple to understand guide!

Hip Hinge (page 31) I had not seen before and am practicing.

Saw endo doctor today after all the tests were in (including the 24hr urine calcium) . Repeat dexa another place still showed osteoporosis. She started me on Forteo for 2 years. She said that I was young for Prolia, she felt better about Forteo. Also she said starting first biphos would interfere with the Forteo action. I did the first shot in her office. Did not feel it! The smallest needle I ever saw.
@momofwildchild- when she went through the options I mentioned your thread to H and he remembered me talking about it. Saying your name out loud was funny!

LOL. Well, rocky. Good luck with the Forteo. It really doesn’t hurt at all. Do you have insurance coverage for it? Under most plans it is a specialty medicine and is extremely expensive. Like- $700-1000 month on a GOOD plan! I got 6 months sort of grandfathered in as a non-specialty drug, and then the specialty pharmacy gave me a “scholarship” where I only had to pay $50 a month, and then Vanderbilt gave me free months of samples about 3 or 4 times. Also- my doctor said it was fine not to travel with it unless I was going to be away about 2 weeks. I did travel with it for trips over 4 days as long as I could maintain the temperature control- i.e. be mainly in one place like someone’s home or a condo and not hopping from hotel to hotel and being in hot cars all day. So- don’t freak out if you miss some doses. All that does is extend the amount of time you take it. I’m a real “rule follower”, so I was anxious about missing doses.

I am in my last 10 days or so of Forteo. Oh- I had a couple of brief dizzy spells in the beginning of taking it. So- you might want to sit down when you do your doses. I did mine right after I got home from work.

mowc: Will you have a follow up dexa scan to see how the Forteo worked?

^ endo wants my 86 year old mother to start forteo - your experiences very helpful -

Yes- my 2 years since my last scan is in May, and that is when I will have another one. After that, the doc will recommend next steps- if any.

I’m eager to hear how it’s gone.

I see my endo in early May, after a dexa scan in late April. I’ve been on no drugs whatsoever – just lifting weights – and if my results aren’t good, I’ll have to start something – probably Forteo.

@MomofWildChild - thanks for the heads up info. So far no side effects -on 3 days. I got a first sample at the doctors office for a months worth. The pharmacy called today to tell me I was approved for $654 copay - which she said was a low price- it is now apparently $2400 a month. I reread you post- I was really worried about limiting my travel as I just retired and had plans to visit Japan where D2 will be in school this fall. Just retiring also coincidentally allows me to concentrate on my physical exercise more.

Is that copy for the year? That’s pretty good! It is a ridiculously expensive drug. Yeah- I might not take it to Japan unless you have a pen that only has about a week or so left in case the ice packs melt or something. Did they give you the travel case and ice packs? Lilly will send it to you for free, if not.

no -copay $654 per month.

Oh geez! Mine was $50 with the specialty pharmacy scholarship. That’s crazy! I would call Lilly and ask for options. There are options out there.
