Book awards

I got a note from my counselor that I might be recommended for a book award. It says applicants will often have their fee waived to apply to schools or might be given a scholarship to the school. On the form she lists schools and say to circle to ones I might be interested in attending. The schools are:
Brandeis
Bryn Mawr
Dartmouth
Harvard
U Penn
U Rochester George Eastman
U Rochester
Smith
Wellesley

Basically I am not interested in an all girls school. I want to circle schools where I am interested in going but also might be prestigious if other schools see it. I don’t really think I would be competitive for the ivies yes the other schools aren’t really ones I’ve been looking at either. If you were in my position, which circles would you circle? I want one that would look impressive, yet I might gain some reward out of it, like a scholarship if I did apply.

I want to do a pre-med chem/bio track at a small/medium school. I also want to play soccer. I have no idea if this influences which ones I should circle.

Whats your sat/act score and class rank/gpa? The schools you apply to dont have to be limited to this list. Keep in mind that most scholarships offered by colleges are merit based i.e based on test scores and grades.

I haven’t taken the ACT/sat yet but my psat was 177. I expect I’ll do better on the act as I am a sciency person. My gpa is 3.89 or 4.08 weighted. I am in the top 5% for weighted, I think 17 out of around 350. I know I am not limited to these schools. I am a junior btw

This is an alumni marketing tool pure and simple. Which one you win is really irrelevant in terms of prestige, If there’s one you really like, by all means circle it, but if you wind up applying to one any of these in the end, your scholarship chances are really identical whether or not you’ve circle them now.

If what you want to do is win an award, why not circle them all?

That said, a small school with good pre-med doesn’t get much better than Smith, Bryn Mawr or Wellesley. I know you say you don’t want to go to a women’s college, but keep and open mind. They are women’s colleges not nunneries.

You get to ASK?

What is this? haha

I got one for an all-girls school on your list. We only have 5 and the counselors choose the people and which award they receive.

Oh disregard my above post i completely misread your post.

If I’m not mistaken there’s merit money attached to the University of Rochester awards (if you apply and get accepted.)

We don’t ask for it! Pretty much we just get a little bit of say for which ones we might be interested in. It appears to me the Rochester one is the only with money attached, so I might as well try for that one.
