Both MIL and FIL read alot. They are in their late 70’s. FIL likes historical stuff. He majored in history and then law. Currently reading “The 5000 Year Leap”. Also reads biographies of John Adams, etc.

MIL reads things like “The Lovely Bones”, and also likes Bryce Courtenay.

I got Unbroken for my father, and Cleopatra: A Life by Stacy Schiff for my mother. They used to live in Egypt, and I actually thought both of them would enjoy both books.

I liked the sounds of One Day when the author, David Nicholls, was interviewed on NPR. I also like anything written by Penelope Lively. The last book I read of hers, Consequences, was not her best, but it was still a sweet multi-generational series of love stories. There’s a newer book of hers called Family Album which I have not read. She’s won the Booker prize once and been shortlisted for it several times.
