In the summer of my senior year I would like to take the open yale course for Organic Chemistry to prepare me for whatever college i go to. All of the info is on the website except for the textbook. For all of the Yale students that have already taken it or know about it, is there even a textbook to follow or is it just a lecture class?

Note that the course on OYC is only the first half of Freshman Organic Chemistry - but of course it’ll be nice to have a head start on grasping some of the material. Anyway, my suitemate is taking Freshman Orgo right now, and there is no textbook associated with the course :)

I’m not sure that going through Professor McBride’s lectures online will prepare you for any other organic chemistry class. He designed the course himself and it is very unconventional. Of course, he eventually covers most of the things a classic organic chemistry class covers, but especially if you only have access to the first semester, you’ll be very confused once you start another course and see that it’s completely different in structure. The only textbook that somewhat mirrors what he teaches (second semester only) is the one he recommends by Jones.
