Books on college pre-freshman reading lists?

What books are colleges recommending for entering freshmen? Or what books have your HS or college-bound kids really enjoyed? My D is a HS junior but I would love for her to find some new, good books for the summer.

I don’t know if this will be helpful because I kind of am of the mind-set that summer reading should be light and kid chosen. But my DDs summer reading recomendations would include the Gemma Doyle trilogy by Libba Bray, anything (except the American Girl books  ) by Laurie Halse Anderson esp…Catalyst. Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer. Tamora Pierce has some good stuff too but some of her work targets a middle school audience. Jodi Picoult deals with some current themes and writes for an adult audience. You could also pick up some Isabel Allende, Alice Walker, Toni Morrison, Amy Tan and Maya Angelou. Some of it is heavier but it is all wonderful and if your daughter is an avid reader she may get hooked on one or more of them.

As far as more academic reading goes here is a princeton review list [Pre-College Book List](http://www.princetonreview.com/college/research/articles/prepare/readingList.asp)

Here is another list: http://sm058.k12.sd.us/Suggested%20Titles.doc

There have been some good lists parents have come up with in the past that you can search for. The lists I remember were geared to boys, who seem to be the more reluctant readers, but the books are still good.

What types of books is your daughter interested in? Which books has she liked in school?
